A stunning shot NC thanks for sharing an inspiration this one!! Could you give me some details on gear used to take the picture and shutter speed iso etc.,please. Black and white birds are no easy thing to get the exposure right on and still retain all the details especially in flight,would you care to explain to me how you worked out the correct exposure off the sky,aswell please.

Thank you for your comments. details are as follows:
Canon 7D Mk2 (LOVE IT!!!)
Canon 500mm F4L
ISO 800
F7.1
1/8000
Centre weighted average
+0.33 EV

I frequently check exposure manually, usually using grass as it gives )me) an accurate exposure. I added teh exposure based on the light conditions, checking periodically with similar birds for exposure. I edited with Elements 13, but not much - I am crap with PP and just do some minor tweaks & cropping.

Absolutely first rate, great job! I think the really fast shutter helped with the whites. I'll have to try that myself!
