Loons on a dense fog lake. Challenging shoot.

Loons are tough to shoot, with the dark head and the super white chest and under belly, but I do love shooting them in the fog.

loons have been my thing as of late. I followed a couple from egg to hatching and defending the little one. It was great fun

Just curious, I currently have my trusty 7D and I'm really considering purchasing a new 7D ll. And I was wondering, if I use this camera in combination with the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L (original old version, not the new MarkII) lens and the Canon 1.4x (MarkII) converter, will I have autofocus? If so does hunt for focus? Most of my photos are of BIF, and I would like to try my hand at motor sports.
Thanks for any input.

Yes the 7d II can focus at f8, but only with center point or center expanded.

IQ of the 100-400 w/ the 1.4x is actually pretty good (assuming your 100-400 is a decent copy). You may or may not need to do some micro focus adjust to dial in the sharpness however.

Thanks for the info, that justifies the purchase (in my mind) to the wife. I do have a good copy of the 100-400. Looking forward to trying it out.

I'm more of a lurker than a poster but I enjoy everyone else's photos. This one I'm kinda pleased with even though the prop blur was not what I wanted.
