Whilst out today, I was a little disappointed that my Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8 IS II doesn't seem to be managing to attract as large birds

as this lady using a Nikon, whom I photographed on a previous photography day.

Should I switch brands I wonder? Perhaps white puts them off...

It's a large expense to swap brands. I would just tie a live mouse to your lens.

Canon 7D/350D, Σ17-50/2.8 OS, 18-55IS, 24-105/4 L IS, Σ30/1.4 EX, 50/1.8, C50/1.4, 55-250IS, 60/2.8, 70-200/4 L IS, 85/1.8, 100/2.8 IS L, 135/2 L 580EX II, 430EX II * 2, 270EX II.

white lens > white owl

dark lens > dark owl

size is just a coincidence.

i'd suggest a Lens Coat for the big white prime when around large dark colored birds.

Clearly another example of Canon's inferiority to Nikon. When will Canon ever learn??? This is the last straw. I'm switching to Sony sensors right now. :p

I guess it's not too much of a problem on a mag alloy bodied lens barrel, plenty of strength. Did the birds cause any marking to the paint? Not sure I would want even a small owl perching on a plastic bodied lens.

Can't comment on plastic lenses but I have had both Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle landing/perching and taking off from my arm. Naturally they didn't use the gauntlet but preferred the bare flesh - no marks and no scratches and more importantly no pain!
I should point out that I am a Canon user, if I had a Nikon in my other hand then there would have been blood everywhere!

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).
