This camera has to still be under warranty, as it has been less than one year since the 7DII was released. Canon should not have to be convinced too hard to honor its warranty and either finally fix the thing, or replace it. Unless it was gray market....

Will update after they have taken a look at it.

Update: I have received the camera back from Canon a third time. And it is STILL in the same condition, still overexposing.

In their note they write: "Your product has been examined and it was found that the adjustment of the AE assembly was incorrect causing the image exposure to diaplayed improperly. AE output was checked then AE adjustments was carried out on the AE assembly to address the issue. Product functions were confirmed."

Called them, and they are telling me to send it for a fourth time.

WTF.

Given your gear list you should consider signing up for CPS and then get CPS involved in the repair (or replacement) of your camera. I've found using them to be extremely helpful as they are quick to respond and keep on an issue with you.

Who did you speak to? If it wasn't a manager or high level tech, they just follow a script. If that was the case, I'd call back and explain the situation and the number of times they've had the camera, and demand to speak to a manager. Try to stay relatively calm if you can. Good luck.

I agree. It would be best to use the phone (Canon reps are trained to be nice guys on the phone) and get past the tech guys to customer service or management. Maybe start demanding a new body. From what I have read here at POTN, getting a replacement body can be a very difficult process, but may be the only way for you to solve the problem.

Very frustrating for you.

It was a Manager I spoke with. He reviewed the repair history, and said high level techs looked at it in the previous two repairs.

If you send I t back tell them to put it in P mode and point it at a lightbulb. When they see it is exposing for 20 seconds and not 1/8000 of a seconds with the lens stopped all the way down they'll see the problem. You can't leave the diagnosing up to techs sometimes. Tell them what is wrong and what to do.

I sent a nice long letter detailing this problem. I included a sample image, and explained the issue with "Measured EV"
From the note, it seems like they found the source of the issue but it's not staying fixed.

I think you've given them a proper amount of time to fix it. I would call and ask to speak to the managers manager and demand a new camera. They cant fix it and the body is spending more time in transit and in their hands than in your home. Luckily I live not far from the Jersey service center. If I were in your shoes, I would drive down and demand a new body.

Like Frodge, I live less than a 90 minute drive to the Jersey Canon Repair Facility.
In January of this year I purchased a second brand new 5D Mark III. When compared to my original, the meters were off by 1/3 of a stop. For a week I bumped up the exposure + 1/3 of the original to be equal of the new. The new body compared favorably to my Sekonic 358 L meter.
After a phone call to Canon, they said they could adjust one of the bodies to the other. The next day I brought both bodies. Instead of having one of the people at the desk take notes of the situation, I asked nicely if I would be able to show them what the actual problem was. After diagnosing both bodies, they found that the original body was in fact 1/3 underexposed.
As a CPS Member, 48 hours later I was back on the Jersey Turnpke picking up the original body I left for repair.
Fixed right the first time.

Well they sent a shipping label and I've sent it back for the 4th time.
I've been unable to shoot since April. Got another 7D2 today.

Update: Received the 7D2 from canon repair today. They say they have replaced the AE assembly, rather than just adjusting it like they did the last time.
It's working nicely so far.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully it continues to work properly. So do you have two 7D2s now? You could shoot with both hands...

Yes, I will part with one once I'm sure it's fixed. My wife seems to prefer the 6D.
I have a big trip coming up, can't afford to be left in the middle of the jungle with no working camera :)
