Below are some recent images of swallow tailed kites in Florida. They are either drinking, or taking baths early in the morning.

Handheld from a boat. 7D MK II. 500mm. f/ 7.1. 1/3200.

Outstanding stuff Jason. I like #3 and 5 best, great positioning. I heard about a pond down there where the Kites drink in the morning. I'll have to try this sometime soon. I'm going to Allendale, SC for the annual gathering of Swallow-tailed and Mississippi Kites. It'll be cool to see between 100-200 flying and feeding in one area.

Thank you sir. It is a great place, I have went two years in a row now, this photography is really really tough. One of the toughest I have ever done actually. The problem for you with these guys, as they are only around for about 2 months at the longest, June-August. It is awesome seeing them in large numbers, this lake would let you see more than you probably ever will again.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Check out this blog that describes where I'm going to be this week, they're only here for a month gorging on insects before heading back toward South America. 100-200 sounds like plenty :-)
