Damn you guys... the Batis delay and this thread has done me in.. Lens should arrive on Thursday.

 Maybe what DxO has to say about the lens will help salve your wounded wallet.

Holy crappy focusing, batman.. I feel like I stepped into mirrorless cameras, circa 2010. The images are darn sharp, but I'm far from sold on this this just yet. I'll give it the weekend to see what it can do. IQ wise it seems just as good as everyone says, but I'm not sure it's worth the weight, or the wait-ing for focus.

Maybe I'm expecting a bit much, I had gone in hoping it would do double duty, portrait + macro.

Edit - Well, as a macro lens, it's unbelievable (as long as you don't smash it to pieces after dealing with the crappy focusing). After reviewing these images, I am just confused. I may have to keep this lens, as well as the Batis 85mm.. I just don't know. I'll post some of the images tomorrow after I'm done drooling over this thing.

I love the shots.

FYI:
“Bear with me,” is a request for forbearance or patience. Happy to do it!

“Bare with me” would be an invitation to undress. I'll respectfully decline. ;) hehehe.

I suppose it's possible to do both...

I really like these. Since I'm learning macro photography as well, I just presumed that manual focus would be the norm. The very few times I've used this lens from a distance, the gnomes and a shot of my neighbor, I don't recall AF being particularly slow...but then, at my age, I'm lucky to remember my name when I wake up in the morning.

Natural light only this time. Now if I can only get them facing me!

The sharpness of this lens continues to impress me. I have discovered a major issue however. Trying to stoop, bend, squat down to a level where I am at the same height as these flowers plays havoc on my back. I may have to get some planters and put them on a table so I won't have to stoop so low!

The one bad thing about the local botanical garden is that they are only open weekends from 11:00 to 4:00. If that weren't bad enough, the temps were already in the mid 90's when I went there late this morning.

Here's a butterfly that was attracted to the color orange for some reason.

I get the feeling I have this whole thread to myself sometimes...

From this morning, natural light only.

Thanks.

The colorful flowers in my front flower garden attracts these little Skipper butterflies so it's a convenient place to practice...and to occasionally get surprised by something else. The botanical gardens I went to are pretty close and I may go there again tomorrow.

Camera mounted 580EXII flash + mini softbox used for this shot. This is about a 50% crop.

Gene, you're doing great with the macro shots.

Here is a detailed review from Sony Alpha Labs for anyone interested
