this does mean it's no longer a L series camera.

Why would you want to fix it , it won't improve your snaps buddy. What's an L series camera , never heard of one.

Mine did too.. and I thought.. I know, I'll just superglue it back on..

DO NOT DO THIS..

You'll lose manual focus.. My lens is now auto focus only..

doh!

yea talking about a lens and typing camera.

I have just used some double sided tape. it's fine for now and to be honest I am happy with the lens. managed to get some good photos with it so not going to be replaced any time soon.

good to know about the superglue.

I would never have guessed... Good info. What if one only glues the ends of the ring together instead of the ring to the lens (as in assuming you did)?

I cannot imagine that you can't simply order a new one from Canon service.

It's not an L unless it comes with jewelry. But I am miffed that it appears to be a mere trinket.

You can order a new one, but the front of the lens has to come off in order to install it.

yea I thought it would be a bit of rubber or something but it's hard and brittle. it broke in two places, the first one I would have thought was the join but then it broke again.

I will see how long the double sided tape lasts :)

Red electrical tape on mine when it broke. Cut the tape with exacto knife, wrapped it around 3 times to build up the correct thickness and voila...looks like a bought one :)

Good idea, but I would have used something other than red just for a change, perhaps a nice bright green or something.

Would that make it a 24-105 DO? Might make it smaller and lighter too!
