70D Autofocus with Half Shutter Not Working?

I have a 70D I've only used twice, but for whatever reason the shutter half push does nothing and will not autofocus in the AV, TV or M modes, it works fine in auto modes. I've searched for a solution, thinking it was perhaps just a custom setting disabled, however my searching and toying around with the camera have yielded no answers. Anyone have suggestions...assuming it's most likely user error, however my 60D works just fine. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the AF-ON button? Also, have you checked to see if back button focus is on?

Yes...the AF-ON button responds as I would expect a half push of the shutter to respond. I don't see an option in the menu to turn back button focus on or off.

Sounds like they have some custom settings and one is that the shutter button does not focus. Since you just got it, I would probably just go into the menu and clear all settings. If they have BBF set, it should clear that. Then you can start from scratch and set everything to your liking.

I thought that would clear custom functions too, guess not. Try going into your menus, go over to custom functions, you should be able to just clear the custom functions here. If this doesn't work, I can check my menus when I get home. Don't have my 70D with me right now.

Tired that as well...caveat is it says "Clear all Custom Functions Settings for Custom Controls will be retained" However I've found no where to change custom controls...

Ok...so on the touch screen, just click the little camera icon with the 3 lines next to it (near the bottom right of the screen). then click "default set"

Here's a video i found on youtube

No problem. I figured you should probably just clear everything though. If they took the time to set custom controls, they probably changed many other things as well.

Custom Functions are reset separately from the "Clear all camera settings" option, as you discovered.

Also the copyright info is cleared independent of the previous two.

That's weird. My 70D wasn't set up like that. You didn't buy a refurb did you? That'd explain it.
