Checked in on local breeding pair of Powerful owls this morning, chicks expected to start popping heads out of the hollow at any moment.
Took a few photos but being cautious, no flash, not hanging around long. Mum and dad roosting nearby, dad had a Ring-tailed possum.
Safe bet this was the discarded guts of that possum.

Getting a few network errors, so two posts...

Quite a commotion after finding the guts above, so investigated and found it was due to a Pacific Baza in the area.

This heron was perched in the tree tops so I was shooting into full sun here but I did my best with the processing and I think the lens handled it exceptionally well

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.

Walked 15 kms today through Boondall Wetlands and Nudgee Mangroves and only got one shot off! Didn't see anything other than Ibis and this Heron but it took off the moment I got one shot at it. Even the Fiddler Crabs kept out of my way! I've never been there before and was only expecting to do 8ks on a circular but the footbridge that I thought I saw on the map, was a boat ramp! Must get myself another eye test!!!:lol:

You were very brave in this cold windy weather, but the heron is nice.

To be honest, I stayed inside and added pics to the PE Organizer and found this one from some time ago, a Corella:

Could have cleaned this up with the highlights and shadows but I rather like the atmosphere created by the sun leaking through the undergrowth and lighting the bird

Some images from my travels around Australia over the years.......

1. Gang Gang - Bogong High Plains Vic
2. Wild plumed whistling ducks- Yellow River NT

Been shooting Australian landscapes and wildlife for over 30 years now and Ive still only seen a small amount of this unbelievable vast and stunningly beautiful land of ours and the amazing wildlife that inhabits it.

Next trip on my bucketlist is to South Coast of Tasmania to get an image of the near extinct Yellow bellied Parrot . Only 50 pairs left according to experts

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange-bellied_parrot (external link)

Would love someone to post a recent wild shot of this endangered parrot if they have one to share?

See you all in Tassy 2016!!
