So i raved about it when it came out and it has worked perfectly until I was out in a remote area today and I needed to send a file from my laptop.

So i turn on the hotspot on my phone but when I went to connect it would not allow me.

Apperantly Win 10 will reject all the ones who have the little security shield alert.

My hotspot is encrypted so im not sure why im getting that flag.

The hotspot worked great when I was on Win7 and on my XP machine.

How do I turn that off? I tried turning off the entire firewall but that still didn't let me connect.

Just a thought, but maybe you need to confirm network type? Usually the exclamation on a hotspot means it's public and not trusted.

It doesn't even ask me for the key. It just says can't connect.

I tested it on my old computer to make sure the hotspot was(is) working.

Sorry, I started editing my post when I went and refreshed my memory on what an exclamation means. At first, I thought it meant secure, but looking at my own hotspots here, now remembering it means that it's a public site (not to be trusted). Seems like you might need to reconfigure your router...whether it's that security type or a firmware upgrade...looks like your computer is not syncing with the security protocols.

What do you mean by hotspot app? I think you should be getting into the router's setup.

Did you try right clicking the WiFi icon and running the troubleshooter? Other things I'd try:

1. Shut down your PC and turn the power off for 10-15 seconds, then power up and re-start (could be a problem with your wireless adapter).
2. If 1 doesn't work then power down your router for half a minute then plug it back in. Wait a few minutes for it to reset then see if it corrects your PC issue.

As mentioned in the first post I'm using my phone as a wifi hot spot.

It connects just fine to my home network. It's just giving me issues connecting it to my phone. Which i didn't have with Windows 7.

Right clicking does nothing actually, which i thought was rather weird.

I have tried restarting it after changing settings with no luck.

Bummer. I used to have problems in Win 8.1 connecting my Surface Pro 2 to my iPhone ... wish I could remember how I cured it.

I have a usb wifi antenna thingy from a REALLY old computer im gonna see if I can use that. It bypasses the windows wifi, but i only have the 32 bit drivers for it so im not sure if it'll work.

Im also gonna try running it on linux, worst case scenario i will just dual boot it when I need wifi in the middle of nowhere.

Ah, got it. With my android phone, I like using FoxFi. On the computer, I have PDAnet installed to be able to sync. If you don't want to install a client on your computer, I'd still get an app that lets you try different security protocols Could also be a driver that's missing dualband: if your hotspot is broadcasting at both 5GHZ and 2.4, the computer may not be seeing the 5GHZ spot (so try configuring the hotspot for 802.11b)
