It's noon GMT or after, so here are the results. A bit shocked at the low number of entries - I tried to specify a very liberal topic.

Even with only 2 entries, (two excellent ones at that) I had a tough time deciding. I had to go with which one spoke to me more, and, as a veteran, the cemetery picture grabbed me most. So the winners are:

#1 Trumper - Stars and crosses RIP

#2 rpolitsr - A kite, no wind...

Congratulations to the winners and my sympathy to you, HWolf - I know how it feels when one's challenge almost bombs! I felt sure someone would come up with a version of the American flag but, being Canadian, it wasn't going to be me.;-)a

I tried hard to think of anything "starry" to photograph but was uninspired. Lots of photos of sea stars in my archives but none taken with a G-series. E.g. this taken with an S5:

I apologize for not submitting an entry this week. I was a bit distracted with the new grandson and helping out at his home with cooking and cleaning chores (when not fighting for my chance to hold the baby). It was a fine challenge and I thought it would attract more entries! Must have been an off week for everyone.

Thanks for doing the honors, HWolf! Congrats to Trumper. A very meaningful photo.

Steve

Thank you HWolf for running the challenge.
Congratulations Trumper for the first place.

It was a busy week for me, but I got the time to go with my old star-kite to the park.
July and August used to be windy months here, with the young people in vacation and the sky full of kites, but alas! this Sunday it was calm and I ended with a photo of the kite in the ground.

Sadly we have had challenges with a small number of entries lately, but I have the absolute record: 0 entries in challenge #512 :(

We need to do something to re-activate the enthusiasm for the G-series challenges.

It is such a shame when a week like this happens.I must admit when i first saw the subject i thought oh blimey this is hard.I do like to try and take the photo for the competition, makes me think, look and get involved and out and about.
I was driving home and i live about 5 miles from here https://en.wikipedia.org …can_Cemetery_and_Memorial (external link) and i pop up there several times a year and the thought of the star hit me .
Rafael,i don't think i have ever seen a star shaped kite. :)

I will put up a challenge very soon, later today.

Congrats Trumper and Rafael. And thanks, HWolf, for hosting this week.
I, too, was surprised on the lack of entries this week. Could be many of the usual crowd was on vacation last week.
Personally, I wish I had a less painful excuse for being absent this week. I re-injured an old injury (ACL, right knee).
Walking is hard enough. And without a single star related photo in my archives, driving was totally out of the equation.
Hopefully, I'll be on the mend enough to participate in this week's challenge.

~ Jim

I think that's the big issue right there. I too have several cameras from which to choose, and sometimes it's hard to pick a G as the camera for an outing. I'm fortunate to have two - my G12 is my biking camera, and I keep my G15 in my work bag so I can always pick it up for a lunchtime shoot.

I have long thought that the need is for a new challenge to be started in the "Competitions" section, with rules the same as this G-series, but open to ALL digital cameras including DSLRs, G-series and small compacts.

The DSLR weekly speed challenge in "Competitions" is just about dead, with few entries and forgetful judges. The small compacts "Powershot" challenges gets quite a few entries, many of high quality, but the system of voting doesn't appeal to me and results in some unjustified winners (IMHO!).

My only concern is that how can a G camera compete with a dslr with a whopping L lens.
I did wonder a while ago whether the competitions should last for 2 weeks to allow everyone a chance to try and get the photo.I know in the winter when the light is restricted to a few hours a day it may be quite hard to get out and about.

I've seen many photos here and in the "compact" challenges that at web size would be impossible to distinguish from a fine DSLR shot, and I'd bet that most of the entries and winners in an "open" challenge would still be from sub-DSLR cameras.

As for lengthening the challenges to two weeks, I personally like the weekly ones, so that if I can't make an entry I've only got to wait a week and there will be a new subject.:-)

I had every intention of getting in on this & apologize that I missed the deadline. I went to San Diego for a few days & on the day I came home, I ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. Nothing to worry about & I am fine now....... Back in to the swing of things tomorrow.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.
