Just sat on the bit of mortar between 2 bricks, this fly let me get pretty close before it buzzed off.

Exif:
1/125sec, ISO 160, f/11.

I spent 5 minutes or so following a harvestman around the wall outside too, as it moved across the bricks and a piece of wood attached to the bricks (we put fireworks on the wood, Catherine Wheels...) :)

Six shots at various angles and perspectives:

Can anyone advise whether the Mieke FC-100 macro ring flash is any good please?

Its the Nifty Fifty... and I think you are seeing some signs that maybe you should get it... :-P ;-)a

Yes enjoying the image quality of the 90 prime, and don't use the old nifty fifty much as it tends to hunt for focus and is noisy

From what I understand Rosey, they are OK, but the light despite being constant, can be deemed as weak compared to the output of a flashgun.

Paul.

If it's a good price, it's worth a go.

And to emphasise the contrast between work and leisure:

and a little NZ fur seal sunning itself. Apparently it has been around a week or two, and sometimes suns itself on the boat ramp.

And a different view of some of the boats shown earlier - "Carly" is the sleek one at the back :-):
