Downside with BB is sales tax.

Yeah.. that's the only reason I didn't go with BB, Crutchfield, etc.. all those big-box stores. Here in Chicago sales tax is over 10%.. so easily another $300+ for that. The good news is I can order out of state, have it overnighted, and still save money over the local cost.

I'm kind of surprised there haven't been more AF tests (especially with EF lenses) now that the camera is out. Not necessarily on here, but online in general. Or have there been and I've just missed them?

I agree. I keep searching YT for the latest reviews, but they are slow in coming.

I did view Steve Huff's latest video last night: he and a bunch of other's are currently participating in a several day Sony workshop to specifically to evaluate the a7R II. We should be seeing some good stuff out of that soon.

And I think we'll start reading lots of reports right here on POTN (and on FM) in the next week or so.

I've found some AF tests on YouTube today and 2 of them were terrible with a Commlite adapter and the one I saw with the metabones looked really good

He said "everyone" on the little expedition agrees that the 50mm f/1.2 L looks great and has great focus on the A7RII in the comments but I'm not sure about his overall experience with metabones adapters and Canon lenses.

hrmm.. Saw a YT metabones video that said lenses prior to 2006 do not work well.. then he went on to mention the 50 1.4 and 85 1.8.. I'm still holding out hope my 17-40L (introduced in 2003) will work well with the new AF.. :\ Hopefully he meant manufactured after 2006, and not necessarily designed prior to 2006. If it was designed prior to 2003, this would mean the 35L wouldn't work well either. I don't have one but I imagine lots of people would be disappointed in that..

The AF didn't look to be very consistent from the ones I saw on YouTube so far.... I also read that with the 3rd Party lenses, you cannot select your AF points? If so, that's kind of a deal breaker to me :(. I'll wait until more videos and reviews come out

If that's true, that would be a pretty big oversight that hasn't been mentioned!

Was reading some comments on Lloyd Chambers' site and there is concern about the quality of Live view for manual focus. Apparently the magnified view is quite coarse and makes manual focus a real problem.
Considering this camera is going to be used with a lot of adapted MF lenses this seems to be a significant issue.

Right! I guess it was Tony Northrup that mentioned that......can't confirm it for myself, but that would just be idiotic

The a7R is fine for my needs. Are they saying the a7R II is worse? That would be shocking.

Someone sent a note to Chambers suggesting those complaining may not have have their display quality set to "high"; it is set to "standard" by default. Hope that is the problem, because as a mf shooter I can't have poor EVF performance.

I have the a7rII in hand. First thing I did was mount my 24-70II. I'll go ahead and debunk the idea that you can't select AF points with adspted lenses. You can.

Secondly, the viewfinder is noticeably better, not worse, than the older a7 cameras. I've been using MF since the a7r and it works fine. Focus peaking actually makes it easier to MF than you ever could on a DSLR.

Awesome!

Yes, there will be a continuous storm of complainers finding bogus things to freak out about. Happens with every single camera release.

Hurry up and post some pics! :D

With regards to the poor quality evf claims guy mancunio (is that his surname??) Over on FM debunked the claims in a thread and is finding it great in use. Usual sony bashing by canikon owners not wanting to admit how good things are
