This heron was perched in the tree tops so I was shooting into full sun here but I did my best with the processing and I think the lens handled it exceptionally well

New camera came in, had to test with Canons best lens
Not my favorite EOS lens though, that's still the 28-300 Ha!
Anyway the 100-400ii works OK (some manual assist with the Sony)
but the results are in my eye sweet, why? because this camera body laughs
at ISO 5000, you have to get to 10,000 before any serious post work is required, anway

Very impressive MM. A pity that the new Sony body and adaptor do not play the game and need some manual assistance.

Leigh beautiful captures of the Spoonbills, the macro bee is over the top excellent.

Keith luckily I only bought the Sony for landscaping, a small bonus that one can use some Canons, in fact quite
a few EOS lens act native via the Metabones iv, even my Tamron 24-70 performs just like a Canon lens; it's the long
lens that are not a perfect match. I've tested a 400DOii and a 300 2.8 IS II and going from 'near' to 'far' is when one
has to assist. I have to do the same thing with the Tam 150-600mm even after the Tamron firmware update. In the
end the Rii is just another camera in the great scheme of things with pros and cons like the rest of them. Tomorrow
a 400mm 5.6 comes and I'll see if it is even semi-friendly (it is an older model). We shot a waterfall 2 days ago and I
was packed with wide angle kit, would have been nice to have had a lightweight tele along for incidentals.

Just received my 100-400LII yesterday. I found the autofocus to be dramatically faster on my 6D than on my 60D. In lower light the 60D struggled so much as to be almost totally unusable and even in good light it was taking way to long to lock focus. So much so that birds were routinely flying away before I could get focus lock. I checked all the settings and I have both cameras set up similarly so it seems to be caused by the camera hardware differences. My 70-300L works noticeably better on the 60D than the 100-400 does. I tried the focus distance limit switch and it helps both cameras for sure.

Not really a problem as my wife uses the 60D so she can utilize the 70-300L. I actually purchased the 100-400L for me and my 6D!

Oh and my Kenko 1.4X DGX Pro300 works very nicely with the 100-400L on my 6D even though it shouldn't, just a little slower locking focus. I can't get my Canon 1.4X III to autofocus at all with that combination as I expected.

Got this little feller in my garden yesterday. If he hadn't have moved I would have not seen him with my poor eyesight, so it's a testament to this lens and body that I managed to get him "on film" (so to speak

Thanks Pete, but here's me wishing that I could sample what the USA has to offer!

Most of my shots are within 3 minutes walking distance excepting the shore birds, even the herons, egrets, darters and cormorants. They all fish a storm drain about 200 metres from my front door. The council has landscaped it with native trees that also attract the honeyeaters and lorikeets.

If I'd have known that I was going to enjoy birding, (thanks to the 7dmk11 and the 100-400mk ll), I would have landscaped my yard with natives, but instead went "low maintenance Arizona" and gravelled it with crushed sandstone and planted it with cacti and succulents. Some are flowering atm and I was amazed to see that these non-native plants are attracting the honeyeaters. They seem particularly interested in the Aloe flowers.

I'd still rather have wolves, elk, and grizzlies in my back yard though

Funny stuff going on with extenders? I have seen reports that some older kenko models work with the 7Dmkll and the 100-400mkll but my latest model Kenko 1.4X DGX Pro300 hunted all over the place with that combo. So much so, that I sold it and bought the canon. The kenko never had a problem with the older 7D and the 70-300L

Another quickly grabbed shot with this lens. I was going to send the image to the bin but I was amazed to see that the lens had picked up what I hadn't seen with my naked eye, both IRL and at first studying this shot............the aphids underneath!
