POTN G-series Speed Challenge #548 - PAPER
_______________

RESULTS!

What a good lot of entries this week for what I had feared might be a dull topic - thanks! A few comments on each:

rpolitsr: "old news". A strangely "abstract" look, with the luminous blue tone overall and twisted vegetation. The more I looked at it the more I liked it.

Maureen: "Scrapbook Paper". Crisp and colourful, showing what can be done with an everyday item.

Raven: "Amachua Origami". A real eyecatcher, black background a good choice. I had to look up "Amachua" and it seems it's Japanese for "amateur" - right?

OhLook: "Weathered flyers on telephone pole". Like the grainy look of this - as if it's been in a fire.

Trumper: "Stealth paper plane". I thought someone would enter a paper plane, but I think yours would be much improved if the plane had been shown alone, or better still, flying - now that would be a challenge!

Spoco57: "Paper or Plastic". Love this shot. Nice composition and just the right depth of focus and sharpness to make one almost feel the crackle of the paper bag.

HWolf: "Silver paper, still a joy...". Takes me back to my darkroom days in improvised spaces like that, but can't say I miss them. Nice shot!

Not easy choosing, but the winners are:

#1 Spoco57: "Paper or Plastic"
#2 rpolitsr: "old news"
#3 Raven: "Amachua Origami"

So take it away, Spoco!

***************

Although you may need to take a new photo this week rather than digging in your archives, there can be no shortage of subjects around. Newspaper, toilet paper, wallpaper, important paper, printer paper, paper making...etc. Use your imagination. Anything goes as long as your main subject is clearly PAPER!

Results now at the top:-)

Anyone competing here might be interested in knowing the weekly DSLR challenge in the "Competitions" section of the forum has now been changed so that photos from ALL digital cameras are now eligible, not just Canon EOS ones. Now is your chance to show that images from our G-series cameras can be just as good as many from the big guns ;-)a

Well, I felt quite confident this week that someone else would be on the podium. There were some really fine shots entered and I didn't think mine would figure into the group of chosen ones. I really liked Maureen's and Raven's, and like you Teekay, I found Rafael's to be maybe a slow burn but perhaps my favorite.

As for mine, it was just a quick grab. We've had this kitty for 13 years now, and she's completely blind, but can still locate a paper bag or box on the floor within seconds of it's placement there, and unerringly chooses it as a napping place.

Thanks for the challenge and the judging, Teekay. Really nice topic, as witnessed by the number of entries.

I will try to get back with a topic as soon as possible. This one caught me by surprise.

:-) Well done everyone.I was really beginning to struggle with this topic, strange because paper is one thing we all use everyday but the light bulb never clicked in LOL.
Thanks for hosting.

P.S Is there an easy way to transfer the entry form format as i seem to get into a right state correcting the copy/paste sentences.

The trick is to copy what you find in REPLY instead of copying the post. That way, you get the coding. I made a template for myself, in view of the possibility of future wins, by doing this. I also corrected the errors in capitalization and so forth, because I "get into a right state" looking at them.

Here's the template. I just change whatever needs to be changed for the current challenge.

The part about how to turn on private messaging is out of date. I think the coding for larger type needs updating also. "+1" doesn't work in AMASS!

Challenge #505, Elegance

This week's topic is elegance. Many subjects can convey elegance. People all dressed up at the opera, ancient or modern architecture, industrial design, performers on stage--just a few ideas for starters. Whether your scene is simple or complex, show me something classy.

Remember, if you post a photo, you may be the winner. Be prepared to host and judge a new challenge.

To submit, click Post Reply and put your photo name in the subject line. Don't forget your camera model.

Post until Monday noon GMT, 13 October 2014.

I've found an easy way for me is to go to last week's challenge and hit the "Quote" button at the bottom of the host's first entry... the challenge itself. The box brings up the code for his or her challenge. Then I highlight and COPY that entire code and then back out.

Starting a new thread, I just paste the copy (of the code) of last week's challenge into the new box and go about changing a few things.... the number, the title, erase the winner's announcement and enter my own challenge description. It just takes me a few minutes.

Cheers,
Steve
