thanks - i think

i just do not get that switch

You can assign the button to do one function when its in the af/mf position and a different function when its in the ael position. So you could have it to eye af and back button focus and then switch between the two. An extra button in that area would be handy though

I second the fact that continuous eye focus is a game changer for portraiture.

FE 35 1.4 wide open. Continuous eye AF:

Here's a couple pics from a wedding I went to in California this weekend.... A7RII and FE 35mm 2.8 (super easy travel combo).

The cool part is, these were literally snapshots.....used LR6 and PS to edit out a couple distractions but otherwise, just normal workflow.

I am astonished that the camera AF picked out deer in the field! Great images.

still doing a lot of testing with different Canon lense on the A7Rii
had the 24-70 F2.8 II on and while it isn't a light setup when you add the MB4 adapter, it really is a great feeling 'pro' type feeling
did a little tracking testing and again like the 70-200, you can get the first few shots in focus and then it just doesn't keep up
that said, the IBIS and the lack of a mirror really give that camera a great steady feeling while shooting which I really, really like

between hockey games where my son was playing, the outside warm-up area had a large number of seagulls and Canadian geese relaxing in the sun

for this picture I used manual focus on the bird's face on camera right

ISO 100, F8, 70mm, 1/250th laying on the grass while shooting

of all my cameras and lenses, i think if i had to grab 1 setup to shoot 'almost anything' this pairing (A7R2 and Canon 24-70 F2.8 II) would be very near to the top of the list if not at the top - previously I would have said the 5DSR with the 24-105 F4 IS

In terms of Custom buttons, my current setup (which I know will still change) is:

c1 - metering (this is the wedding person in me as I can quickly change to Spot to meter the dress and then back again)
c2 - magnification for manual focus (I'm actually using this where i never, ever thought of or could with Canon 5D3s)
c3 - turn back display on / off (great for power saving - i put it off unless I'm going to shoot using the rear display
c4 - silent mode (i may change this as it is easily available in the Fn menu but I like it quickly available)

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

thanks for this as i went back in and tried to get what I want - that is BB AF in one position and Eye AF in the other - and now I have it - thanks
