I am not a genius, I just try (almost) everything whenever I buy something new, be it a camera, a cellphone, or a TV!

What I said is useful only when one uses a custom mode (e.g., C1) with the settings for BIF/panning shooting.
So, you select all the parameters you need for BIF shooting (e.g., a high shutter speed, the AF settings, etc.), and then you find in the menus the "Custom Control" (see p. 445 in the manual where you find this in the menus). In "Custom Control" you can change what different buttons of the camera do when you press them. Go to the "depth of field preview" button (1st column, 4th row), and change this to "IS start". This means that the VC doesn't engage anymore, you have to press the "depth of field preview" button (somewhere in the front of the camera) to engage it (we don't care about engaging it, anyway).
You save the settings in a custom mode (e.g., C1), then you change the "depth of field preview" button again to something else (so as you have a working VC outside the C1 mode), and, voila, from now on, every time you turn the mode dial to C1, you get not only the various metering, AFing, etc. settings you need for BIF, but also a VC that does not engage, although the VC switch is on the "on" position.
I hope I helped a little!
George,
I tried it out on 'things', and it definitely helped that kind of shooting. I haven't had a chance to shoot BiF though, and won't for a few days or so, but I could see that the pictures came out like there was no VC working, so, to me, that is what i needed, I'm not ready to send mine in to have them update it, yet.
Thank you SO MUCH again, I appreciate that you went out of your way to help, me, us.
Personally, I still think you're a genius!
Randy
