Perfect crown Robert - and the colours are wonderfully complimentary.

This stink bug (Pentatoma rufipes) offered an opportunity for a few portraits, so I willingly obliged him!

Wasps munching on apples are a common sight as autumn approaches, however, I would still advocate caution if you try to get close enough to take a macro shot of them...

Look at the last photo - they have amazing tongues/mouth parts!

Thanks every one.
Great 'stinker' Paul, who can not appreciate wonderful design looking at what you captured.
Of course the wasp images are just beautiful.
I took a pic of a Wheel Bug today, had the bright idea I'd bring him home and stack him and paid the price.
He tapped me right on the fingertip, finger immediately went numb and took 20 min's to for the aching to subside.
Lesson learned the hard way.

On bug season-we're in the fast transition zone; still broiling in mid day but getting very cool at night and in the
morning. Two more weeks and first frost is possible.

But fantastic news. We found and captured a second mantis. This one is female and with all the signs of being
gravid so maybe just maybe we can see little ones next spring after the thaw.
We also went into the field and caught grasshoppers and fed both mantids. The female wasted no time in showing why
mantids are famous predators. The male took his time about the whole process.
Anyway, these two have very nice spacious homes where they could live for anywhere from a year to 18 months. We'll
do what we can to help them live as long as possible.

One from yesterday hanging out in Lake Michigan. The line is for divers that might need to pull themselves back if caught in a current. While I was waiting around I thought I would take a pic of the "tag-line" before I went down to pull the anchor off the shipwreck we were on.
