Right now I see sales pop up for brand new grey market bodies for 2,000 on eBay. From time to time Canonpricewatch usually posts it, but at the moment they just ended that sale yesterday. I can't say I've have any experience with it though as I haven't bought with that method.

I myself am watching the price but it still is far off from a bargain. At $1500 to $1700 for the same amount of cash i can pickup a Sony A7
with a metabones and have a far better camera.

In your opinion maybe. The A7 is not great, I just returned it yesterday after one day and one shoot with it. The AF is awful in anything but good lighting and the battery life is a complete joke. Not to mention the accessories are absurdly priced. $300 for a grip? the grip for the 6D was only $170. Then the FE lens selection is non existent if you shoot portraits and every adapter Ive seen gets terrible reviews for the AF speed and accuracy on an already bad camera for AF speed and accuracy, no thanks. The A7 has multiple issues, which is why Sony rushed out the A7ii a year later. The A7 is not even as good as the 6D, much less the 5Diii

So far my 5dIII grey market GID import works fine.
I got error code 80 once (at my first solo wedding, of course) but I attribute this to the off brand battery grip and it hasn't happened again. I toggled the power and it was fine. Had my 6D for backup, too.

There are 5Diii non-grey markets going on Craigslist in this area for $1700 with box, Canon warranty, manuals and all!

Yeah its tempting.. if you need it. If I weren't getting paid like I am now I would be happy with my 6d and a nice lens for the price of the 5dIII alone.

At the current selling price i would go up to the 5d III over the 6d.
I own a 6d and speaking from experience at a wedding or other events a 5d is the go to for the focus points alone.
9 af points just isnt enough

I find it very limiting as well.

I don't mind using my 6d at a wedding. Focus and recompose is fine and dandy with my f/4 lenses. I've tested my 85mm f/1.8 extensively and the peripheral auto focus points work just fine on it. I tend to use my f/1.2 50mm on the 5dIII so I can use just cross type AF points just to be safe given the extremely shallow DOF.

To me, the dual card slots alone make the camera worth it. But I'll take the cross type AF points as well.

The 5diii is back to $1899 and I just took the plunge. It will probably go to 1500 in the next 30 days.... you are welcome! Ha!
