Hey everyone, had a cool encounter with this guy the other day. amazing bird. Never seen a more friendly Pileated ever. I was walking through a wooded area near my home and he just flew in and started poking around. he and I just walked around for a good hour. This area is so heavily brushed that clean shots were just about out of the question.

Good ones, Jeff. And getting a clean shot of one in flight in that mess of vegetation is no mean feat. Well done.

Great shots. I have encountered a couple that just didn,t care you were close,,,,,but most just take flight, and keep going.

Great photographs, Jeff.

We had one here a few years ago. He showed up for a few weeks one year... a couple days the next and that was it. Back then, I only had a little point and shoot so I didn't even try to photograph him.
