Windows 10 Image Compression

Hey folks!

Was wondering if anyone besides me has noticed a clear degradation in image quality since switching to Windows 10?
Doesn't seem to be everywhere but specifically so on the web and while using the old windows photo viewer.

Linking an image to try and show the difference, not a perfect example as it's the psd versus the jpeg but that's pretty much how it's suppposed to look.
In this example specifically, notice the the tree/leaves in the background and the shadow it casts on the ground.
Guessing the effect in how noticable the difference is will differ depending on what device/OS you're viewing the post.

Anyone with any knowledge on the subject or who's just noticed it as well?
Can't seem to find any info while googling...

WOW! I was just noticing this yesterday on windows 8! I was looking at it in Bridge & Camera Raw and it looked amazing and smooth and sharp. Then I looked at it in the windows photo viewer and it had a lot of noise!

Okey, might've been the same problem in Windows 8 as well then. I switched from 7 to 10.

I've seen this with Windows 7. The image quality can look worse with windows image viewer than looking at the same image on Flickr or Facebook even.

Yeah, that is true. But not to this extent and it's not confined to the photo viewer as images on the web have the same compression/degradatio​n.

Post a better description and attach crops to show the difference, or work out how to do links.

I'm not seeing noise in your images, but a problem with color mapping. On the right side, the green values are way off. For example, the darker green is almost black. Could there be a color profile problem? Perhaps one program is using a profile, and one isn't, or maybe one is using the wrong profile?

Yeah the image viewer in W10 sucks, some shots look out of focus but when loaded in lightroom or photoshop the focus is spot on.

Leaving out the Windows image viewer (never use it myself; I prefer Irfanview), could be that your graphics adapter and/or screen needs a better driver than what the manufacturer made available to Microsoft when Win 10 came out.

I did notice the same thing the first day I installed Win10, upgrading the graphic card drivers resolved it.

Recently I bought an Apple Macbook Pro with Retina screen.. The image quality is sooooo much better... Immediately ordered the 27" iMac desktop.

Was set as 'private', thought you were able to view it if you had a direct link. Guess I was wrong, changed it to public.

Anyway as it seems that it's probably something on my end and nothing particular to do with changes in Win 10, I'm going to go ahead and format the drives and do a clean install (which was due anyway). Maybe something got messed up while upgrading or while installing the graphic drivers. I'll check back here once I'm done.

I don't use the windows photo viewer? Why would I? I have a fast computer and Adobe products. That could be the root of your problem.

Haha that's good for you buddy.

Anyway the problem lay with the monitors standard color profile, didn't work as intended with Win 10. Switched it to the sRGB standard and everything looks as it should.

I actually do like the W10 viewer but I noticed this problem instantly. I was running through a set of images and "WHAT?! THIS WASN'T BLURRY LIKE THIS?!". Booted it back up in PS and everything is perfect but W10 wouldn't display it like it should.
