Metabones has just released a new firmware version for the Metabones IV smart adapter.

I'm interested because it may add AF support to my EF 85 f1.8 lens.

Awesome. Please report your results post update! I have a metabones III and will have to send my adapter in to update it. Wanted to wait until metabones sorted the new firmware out post-a7rII

Woo Hoo! I just tested my EF 85 f1.8 using the newest firmware and it works!! I've only tested it quickly in relatively low light but it seems to AF very fast wide open. The lens didn't AF at all before. I've also read at FM's forum that the 100-400 now works better too. I'll check that out a bit later.

^^Nice bike.

Here's a quick test I did for AF on the EF 85 f1.8. Shot wide open. It was still dark outside so the only illumination was from the kitchen lights. Full frame resized only with a near 100% crop insert, upper left corner.

So it seems my FE35/2.8 has a decentering problem (left side is soft compared to right side). Bought it 2nd hand and is no longer in guarantee. Anyone know how Sony would handle this and if I can get this fixed without paying as much as I did for it 2nd hand? Center is tack sharp, but it's pretty annoying when using it for landscape/architecture (it's not only wide open)

Very telling graph. While DSLR sales are still higher than mirrorless currently, DSLR's have been in a state of decline for three + years, and mirrorless sales have been growing for the past two. If these trends continue, mirrorless cameras really will start to replace DSLR's. Canon and Nikon will have to position themselves in market segments that are actually growing eventually, and I would be suprised if we don't see something from either of them soon.

Rough math...but based on current sales and the growth/decline rates of the two segments....mirrorless camera sales will surpass DSLR sales by 2019 (assuming growth and decline rates are stable)

The problem for CaNikon now, however, is that Sony has solidified their position as the leader in the mirrorless space in terms of technology, brand, and customer base. They shot themselves in the foot by disregarding mirrorless for so long. Even if the two of them do go mirrorless, we will not see the same duopoly between Canon and Nikon that we saw in the DSLR realm. This is a good thing in terms of innovation and pushing the technology and industry forward, as the duopoly between Canon and Nikon, IMO, create a game theory type situation where neither of the two had any incentive to innovate. The DSLR market actually incentived the two of them NOT to innovate...hence the stagnation of the two brands in recent years.

I don't think so and for now, I'm the only one here so I can't check but...here's a shot I just took using the same setup as yesterday. Resized but not sharpened. Iso is 1600 so I did apply a little noise reduction.

The eyes look pretty sharp to me. I'll just keep thinking about all the money I'll save now by not getting the Batis 85.

Lol if it makes you feel any better, I sold all of my EF primes earlier this year, not knowing the a7rII would be what it is.
