First time poster here though I'm registered for a long time on the forum.

Some shots with my new A7RII and some Sony lenses:

Thanks for watching!

I see you have the a7rii and the x100T, I've always fancied adding the x100t. Can you let me know how the af speed compares to the a7rii?

So I'm sad to say that I don't really consider the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II usable in the overall for my purposes. The lens doesn't seem to focus well at all when near minimum focus distance, which I use it for all the time when doing portraits.

It does work much better when not near minimum focus distance, but it's even quirky then.

I'm kind of bummed as I had envisioned using the A7RII and my beloved 70-200 for doing beauty shots.

Now I'm gonna have to check out the 70-200 FE and the 90 f/2.8 FE.

if its for portrait work, why not shoot in manual mode with focus peaking enabled?

gorgeous! I'm surprised you went small. How are you liking it and working with the files?

now you can travel freely hehe

Thanks.

I really dig the extra latitude the Sony sensor provides, giving me more cropping possibilities without losing image quality. The extra dynamic range and cleaner high ISO are also a big plus.

The file size is a lot bigger so it's a bit more resource-intensive on my computer, but not unbearable.

After going out with the camera, I realized I much prefer the E-M1 for casual outdoor shooting, since I shoot a lot of videos and the IBIS for video is far better on the E-M1. Also, the touchscreen for changing AF point position and focus pulling video is very convenient when you just want to have fun. So I think I'll use the a7RII at home, and the E-M1 when I'm out. But if I have to shoot something that's mission critical, then it'll be the a7RII since it's superior in image quality due to larger sensor size.

ooh cool. the em1 is a fine camera. was my other option but I wanted to go full frame so I went for the a7. I also heard the ibis on the oly's are better than the sony. and yes, touch screen is welcome!

not sure how updated you are.. a7rii suppose to get a firmware upgrade to enable the use of 14bit lossless files. if you're interested in that.. that's more file size to store ;p

did a wedding event last night in Toronto

ex old landmark movie theatre, gutted, rebranded as an event space years ago

took my A7R2 with the 28F2

funky lighting led to my artsy spin on the photos

great space for those with 130+ for a wedding

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Depends on the style of portraiture. Fashion model type portraits are more spontaneous, i.e. 10 poses in 5 seconds if the model know what he/she is doing.

Anyone see the update on uncompressed RAW for the Sony A7sII and A7rII? Was that an official announcement?

I am on my second A7r 2 body after I found the first one unable to focus properly. However I already found that I could get good get good AF with my Canon lenses. Mainly the 17-40, the 24-105, and the 70-200 F4. These lenses on the new body give AF almost as good as I get from my Canon cameras. However, this image is taken with the kit lens, which is actually a really sharp performer. The image below isn't sharpened in any way, and shows fascinating detail. Which is why I think I am going to love this camera.

I was also rather disappointed at 70-200 performance, but very excited to try out the new Metabones firmware. Haven't tried it myself, but word on the street is that 70-200 is better now. (also 135L works now which makes me giddy)

The 90 FE macro is fantastic for portraits, although it's a bit more clinical in its rendering.

The whole 14-bit RAW thing was never an issue for me, since it's not something that affects me, and my feeling is that people made a huge deal out of something that really isn't that big of a deal 99% of the time.

I'm far more concerned about ergonomic and accuracy issues and the lack of f/2.8 zoom lenses. I just posted a firmware update wishlist here: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1440773

I very recently picked up the 70-200 f4 OSS, 135 1.8, & adapter. I'm tempted to return both and pick up another 70-200 2.8L II & Metabones IV if the firmware really is up to par this time. From what I remember, the 70-200 II was nearly as good as the 135L so fingers crossed that the firmware makes the combo more than just usable.
