My little family is still around, just not hanging out together all the time. Their territory is expanding to take in more area all the time. This youngster, pretty much an adult now, was the only one I saw today.

What a beautiful series, Ian. In that last shot, he's saying, "I'm done with you!"

Thank you for sharing.

Good stuff.

Just a question though, how do you get 500mm from a 24-105 lens? Stacked tele-converters ?

It's a 500mm lens Mel, the forum's new software isn't picking it up correctly. I heard a few months ago that Pekka is aware of it. Thanks for commenting :)

Hi Bob! Thanks, and Yes I'm soooo glad to have them around. Far enough away so my cat is safe, but close enough to check on easily. :)

Simply fantastic images. The detail and framing of each image is spot on. I was wondering how much you had to crop in post to get the fox to fill the frame like that. Totally impressed sir.

Well thanks for the kind comments Dave! Actually with the 500 lens I had to keep backing up.these guys are so curious they keep inching closer and a couple of times in this session I had to get up (I always shoot them from a seated position on the ground) and scoot back a few feet without spooking him. I find the ideal combo for shooting this family is my 70-200 lens with a 1.4 extender on. So in fact, the only cropping, if it was possible, was to straighten the frame or for basic composition.

Beautiful subjects and photos Ian.
I haven't picked up my camera for wildlife in a few weeks at least. If I had fox I would though!

Thanks Jeremy, they are all that's keeping me interested lately. Even the bears are keeping well hidden in their preparation for hibernation. Here's two more fox shots I got last evening, same one as above I am pretty sure.
