Ruby Falls, Mt Rainier

Went out with another local photog yesterday, to try and capture some of the fall color foliage down at Mt Rainier. As it seems want to do whenever we go down there, it was socked in and drizzly on the Mt when we got there. He knew of this little fall just off the road so we went and scouted it out. Here were a few different angles/compositions; I know which ones *I* like, but would be curious to hear your thoughts on them, too.

I like all of them - they are gorgeous shots. If I had to pick, I am torn between 2 and 3. But, as I said, I like all of them. I see the exposure time varies between 2 and 30 seconds, but the appearance of the water is very similar. I have shots up to 8+ seconds and the water doesn't look as good. Do you have a secret (that you're willing to reveal)?

Thank you! Exposures just got longer as the light got lower; I should have shot more at the 2s-ish time, as I like the texture in the pool there.

No real secret other than being sure to have a good, quality polarizer on hand when shooting water like that.

all really nice, Eric, but i like #6 the best... the colors in the foreground and the line of trees above the rocks really set off the falls nicely. Ruby Falls is one of those that's actually prettier at low flow; in spring, there's so much water and spray, it seems like just a mass of white.

have to say #1 is my fav, love how the fall on the right arcs and keeps the line with the rocks downward and to the left - great comp!

Thanks! There was somewhat limited space to shoot from, so that's what I was going for there; framing the water with the surrounding land/foliage. I also like the water the best in that shot.

All of them are a little too tight for me... I like to see where the waterfall starts.

That's fair; you can see the top in shot 1; unfortunately, there is a pretty ugly, concrete bridge right there, hence the tight crops at the top of the images.

These are all spectacular. I can't decide which one I like best, but it would be one of the first five.

Makes sense then that being said, I like them... #1 & 6 being my favorites.
