John, that's what I know too but last night it did not work.

turning off liveview seems to be working now. yesterday i could not make it to work. i will test it again tonight.

Guys when I shoot the milkyway yesterday, I was guessing focus. My plan was to over bump the ISO first just to nail focus then bring it down after achieving focus. The problem was the LCD stays dark, no matter how i changed settings it doesn't work.. I tried to turn of liveview display so it will act like optical viewfinder, it's not working. The lens use was manual, the Canon FD20mm F2.8


is this normal or I had tweak something wrong on my menus.

bring a light with you and use it to try to focus on something far away, maybe like 100 -500 feet out. You'll likely hit hyperfocal at that point.

You can also mark your lens when it's daytime. So when it's night you can just manually put it on the mark. If you don't want to have a mark on your lens just just a piece of masking tape and put the mark on it.

On old glass rarely is it ever the one on the lens, It's usually slightly behind.

The 135 f1.8 is a phenomenal portrait lens. Different FOV from the 85 so not really comparable. If I want to completely melt the background into a blur of color, the 135 does a better job than any portrait lens I've used thus far, and its very sharp and contrasty. Similar rendering to the sony Zeiss FE lenses. The LA-EA4, since it has a mirror, is subject to the same misalignment between the mirror, AF sensor, and image sensor as DSLR's, so accuracy can be a problem. You have the ability to MFA the lens in the camera, but honestly I just use MF with it.

The 135 is a heavy piece of glass...its basically a commitment to bring that thing out, but it does its job well. The 85 batis, on the other hand, has the best handling of the FE lenses I've used and is something I wouldn't mind bringing out casually. Both are great, but I can see myself using the batis more based purely on the size of the lens. Plus again, the FOV is very different.

Did your 135 1.8/ LA-EA4 need microadjusting? This one needs +15. It would randomly hit focus though most shots front focused quite a bit. I bought both used from B&H. I'm probably going to buy a new LA-EA4 and re-test before deciding to send the lens back. I've read that this adapter/lens can be hit or miss.

on a kinda unrelated to sony topic,i notice a lot of u guys use light room,is there a section on here that people share their presets?or are presets more set per image and not generic,i down loaded a few portrait ones from the net and i didn't find them useful at all,vinmunoz i would like to try for portraits with edits similar to yours,i really like your portraits.

Welcome to the club! I'm still sporting the original a7 and really like it. I love using it with alt glass, but there are a lot of great native options out there as well now.

Dumb adapters are so cheap. There's an adapter for nearly any type of lens to e mount. I have Minolta Glass konica glass nikon glass canon glass olympus glass and m42 glass for my sony. Old glass can be so good and so cheap. I can't remember when I used a auto focus lens. Even on my em5 I use manual glass only. I've learned a lot. Auto focus can make u lazy. All my lenses are prime so I feel it makes you think more.

Indeed! The only AF lens I own for the a7S is the FE 28mm and I still have trouble getting used to it There's just something blissful about using manual glass.

Although most people will just look it you like this if you try to explain that to them...

Pm me if your thinking selling the a7 ii. I'm no where near needing a a7r2 but the a7 ii is up my alley. I know how well ibis works with older glass on my em 5. I jumped the gun on the a7 I have now. I should have waited. I heard the a7 ii was on is way to be released and I bought a used a7 any ways.

I got my A7II for sale on the FM forums. Let me know if you're interested.
