Wont be able to check the difference with LE noise today though Eddie, can you run that test scenario on the FM thread? Lens cap on. 1 and 30 sec shots. Before and after firmware update. Push shadows. LENR off. - Alfredo -

I don't even know the difference between all the raw possibilities. I do know that I'm in the middle of processing a Milky Way timelapse and the 'regular' raw files are big enough when processing 500 of them. Yeah the raw compression issue has never bothered me personally. I understand that it really is material to certain people, but it doesn't affect my photography at all. I'm glad its here though, if only because the issue has been blown so far out of proportion and I'm tired of hearing people harp on it for the sake of harping on it. focalpointsphoto.com

That's seriously the only reason I'm happy it's coming out... so sick of hearing people complain about it, it's seriously a non-issue IMO. Got to put the eye-AF through its paces for the first time (in a serious fashion). That tech alone is worth the price of admission on the Sony A7R II! Got lots of keeper shots. Sadly, I forgot my speedlight, so had to compensate by shooting in AUTO ISO mode, which makes for a lot of shots at ISO 800-1600. I found these look great viewed at web sizes, but I've never been a fan of seeing gain when things are blown up to 1:1 or even 1:2. (No knock on Sony. I had the same issues with my 6D). I'm someone who will shoot at ISO 100 pretty much 99% of the time. Some samples. I really want the a7rii, shooting without IBIS is annoying as hell. The isos are Yeah. High ISO is very useable. Nothing I would want to print, but otherwise just fine. Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

So we spent the night on the Appalachian Trail on Wayah Bald to run a timelapse and a star trail. You guys have heard me whine about the endless clouds in my area but this night was clear (and cold at 5300 feet). The only irritant was lots of planes, but not in this shot- IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/xY5jLEflickr

Never liked the canon 17-40mm f4. Horrendous distortion all the way to 24mm ish. #jcovellphoto
