Ralff, my wife and I are also going to the big island in October and we booked the 'Volcano Van' to take us on an all day tour. I looked at several of these tour types and liked this because of its small group size, but there are certainly other options,

I recommend the "Revealed" series of apps. One for each island.

I have both the Maui and Kauai ones...don't use them anymore as we have been there so many times, but they are definitely a great source of information. Especially if you're looking for something that's not readily marked, it'll have mile markers or other ways to easily identify things.

While on Kauai if you have time check out the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, they are absolutely beautiful. I have spent the better part of a day there on each trip (3 times already) and plan to go again on our next trip at the end of October.

We're coming into some money here in about a year or so and one of our plans is a 2 - 3 week Hawaii vacation. I already know what gear I want to bring but the question is where is a good place to stay?

We'd like to rent a house either on Oahu or Maui. We're planning on a several island trip this time around but our home base needs to be in a nice area. But not too expensive. We rented a home in Cape Cod for a few days and it was wonderful. We're hoping for a similar experience in Hawaii. Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE: After looking online we decided we are going to add points to our Hawai'i time share. We figured we're going to use it more if the points are there. So that's how we'll do it. After seeing prices of $2,000 - $5,000+ for 2 weeks and the fact that they were similar to our time share anyways...

Headed to Kauai in about 35 days. Looking for suggestions to beach locations to go to with a model or two. Fewer people are better as some will be topless. We will be aiming for early morning or late evening to help avoid people (thinking earlier in the morning is better). I will be leaning on my "models" as well for location ideas. I know of the larger touristy beach areas but looking for any additional input. Don't mind a short hike if it gets us off the beaten path.

Got a few of the Moks and a couple waterfalls here. Glad the trades are back cause it has been unbearable for a bit!

Two beaches I would suggest would be Secret Beach just north of kilauae and Polihale beach at the far West side of the island. Both are big beaches where you should find privacy. Both beaches are better sunset beaches.
