Well I got up at the ungodly hour of 3AM (02:00 GMT) and went and found a spot to shoot the luna eclipse from. I had completely missed that this was happening on the evening/night of the day that I was picking up the new lens from WEX. So a couple of 600mm shots from the new toy.

The first was 600mm f/6.3 0.6s @ ISO 3200 and was taken just after the maximum point of totality.

The second was much later and shows the moon about half way out of the eclipse. This one was 600mm f/6.3 1/125s @ISO 100

I cropped 1/3 of the pixels (linearly) from both images, 3168 Px from 4752 Px.

Yes I was surprised just how many stops difference there were between the exposure during and after the eclipse. There are 10 1/3rd stops difference in exposure between those two shots. Mind you it was only about half way out from the eclipse, which I am sure will have had some residual effect on the brightness.

In theory the surface of a full moon should be sunny 16, but in practice it seems to be about a stop less, which would be correct for your f/8 1/200 shot if it is at ISO100. Of course I still had mine on the tripod, those eclipse images really needed it. 0.6s exposure was about the slowest I could get and not see any of the movement of the moon. That second shot was just before the clouds rolled in and put paid to any more shooting.
