2015 - Youth Football

I've got a dilemma for Saturday's game. Last week I took my 5d3 with 70-200 attached, and my 7d2 with 100-400. Felt like it made the most sense for the focal length, hardly touched the 5d3. Most of my shots were above 200MM, but I didn't get the same pop and wow I was getting last year with just my 5d3 and 70-200.

I want the reach afforded to me by the 100-400 on a 1.6x sensor, but I also really want the separation from the 70-200 on the full frame body.

I've got other shorter lenses, but not quite sure how to setup for this week to get the best shots. I have the advantage of being allowed on the sidelines (serve as a board member for our team and have proper credentials for being on the sidelines) which I didn't have last year, so I might just need to move more and go with the 7d2/70-200, maybe bring the other camera with my 85 1.8 for some nice sideline shots with the coaches, I didn't really take a lot of those but I liked the other ones I saw in this thread. Put that 100-400 on the 5D3 and the 70-200 on the 7D2. Try to shoot the 7D2 @ 200mm to get that separation. It's hard to beat the FF "Pop".

I didn't feel like shooting low at this game to give my knees a rest before Friday night so please excuse the angle.

I like your shots! Looks about the same age range as the team my kids are on. As far as CC, this is a personal preference, but I like my shots to be a little more exposed than the shots you took. Just my general preference, probably not for everyone, others might say mine are over exposed Also, like in your first shot, I think the framing is a little more interesting if it's cropped such that you can see what's happening, or coming in front of the player, even if it's open field. If he's running to the right, I think it's a stronger composition to have more space to the right, and your player more on the left side of the frame.

Thanks for the feed back. With the first picture I was hoping it would work to break the rule about leaving room on the side cause he was looking back with his eyes engaged on the defender to the left. It looked a little off to me as well, but I thought it might have just been me. Lol.

I noticed that too, but then the defender he is looking at is not full in the frame either, so it kind of left a void. I have pictures too in similar fashion, or when a runner is cutting, or a QB dropping back. I think it might also work equally well if that defender he was focusing on was all the way in the frame.

Back to the long Saturdays out on the sidelines. Lighting varies so much from 9/10am to 4/5pm still a lot of fun with great kids and coaches. 1 from each division from 8/22/15. All captured w/60D 70-200L f/4

Surprised they haven't gotten in trouble for the logo yet. A local high school here had to change their logo a few years back bc they had the same logo as the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Great shots everyone. Sorry I haven't posted lately but no football for the past couple of weeks. Bye week and a mandatory cheer comp.
Thank you BlakeC we have change our helmet decal once and then went back to the flag after parents complained. We also have a team that uses the Raiders logo in our league. A local HS had an exact replica of University of Reno logo and got caught using it. They had to switch everything (field, jersey's, helmets) to a new logo.
