What does Canon need to put on the 5D4?

What would you like to see on this body? My list would be.......

1. Around 36mp sensor or so to be up to par with the competition

2. Increased DR to closely match the Nikon/Sony sensor(It's been years they've had this advantage.....Come on!)

3. 4K (gotta keep up with the Sony)

4. Flash sync speed jump to 1/250

5. WiFi?!?!

I mostly shoot landscapes and weddings, so my needs are much simpler than most, but what all would you like to see on this body?

I dont think they need 36mp, they need a 24mp for sure. They have the 5Ds for those who need high mp. They need to do what they did with the 1DX and 5D3 by having the same focus system just half or a bit better in frame rate. Deeper buffer as well. Dual CF Card would be great as well just like 1DX. Wifi would be nice along with high sync speed. 4K is a must if they want to keep people shooting Canon in the low buget video world, or they need to do HD 10 bit with High Frame rates.

I enjoy high resolution, but from a buyer standpoint when you compare a body with 24mp and one with more DR and 36mp, which one looks like a better performer? Would you rather have 24mp or 36mp? I'd pick 36mp all day given the same image quality

Agreed anything under 36 MPS would make it 3 generations behind Nikon! And remember Nikon has pretty good DR As well.
The current frame rate is fine, those really requiring more are probably better serviced by a 1DX?

Certainly would hate to see dual CF cards, given the option of dual CF or the highest perforiming dual SDs - SD would be my preference every day.

Its also time to insert 4K Video, but I bet Canon will cripple it to protect their Cinema line.

36mp, improve ISO/DR, improved AF, FPS is fine. The dual card slot, one CF the other SD, is fine with me as I can use a spare SD card from the gopro in a pinch. They can leave video out completely as far as I'm concerned same with GPS, WiFi

So where is the weakest link? Just about everything mentioned is doable without much innovation. The DR or lack thereof is the Achilles' heal. Realistically, if your Canon and if you could drastically improve the DR common sense tells me that they will do that to their flagship camera before it trickles down to the rest of the crew.

Sadly I think you are right!

Other than if this ships in 2016 - kinda likely, then by 2019 they will be competing with Nikon who had all this back in 2012!

Yep Canon doesn't seem too concerned with DR. There was the rumor that the new 1 series would have "industry leading DR", so we shall see. I was talking to another member and apparently true digital DR is limited right now at 14 stops since they use 14 bit RAW files. Will be interesting to see what happens in the future when the begin to break that 14 bit barrier like Nikon/Sony already have. Guess we'll have 16 bit files by then hopefully

I just don't see them making a dent in the upgrade market if they don't do at LEAST these two things. Just MHO.

Just found this is an article. What is the difference?

There is nothing more overrated in the internet forum world of photography than DR, except maybe megapixel count. Its like Apple and Samsung geeks arguing about processor speeds in their phones and what phone can do something a nano second faster than another. How have pro photographers been taking such amazing, award winning sports, wildlife, portraits, landscape and journalistic photos for all these years with Canons and their low DR cameras?! So ridiculous. Having said that, the 5Dx (iv is a bad luck number in Japanese culture, so it wont be called the mark iv) should have around 30-36mp, and various improvements as Canon has a lot riding on this camera.
