I'm planning on doing a photo shoot for my nephew's BMX race. Any suggestions. I have a DSLR, but I'm not too great with it except for stand still video.
Any suggestions for getting good angles and decreasing blur.

Are you planning on shooting video or stills?

don't shoot from the sides, ideally from a slight angle to completely in front. Start at 1/500 and work from there. I'd shoot shutter priority as well. Let us know how it worked out :)

Ive got some bmx race shots on page 5 in sports, i found keeping low helps, the peaks on the helmets shade the riders faces a lot of the time.
Mix the shutter speeds up, 1250 to freeze things. 640 i found gave the wheels a nice touch of blur, then have a go at dropping it right down. You need to find a part of the track they coast on like the corners, the rider stays pretty static and aids with the pann. Hope this helps.
