DP I didn't need any MA on the 100-400LII, I tried just could not make it better than nothing at all.

Mine doesn't either. Maybe a few ticks which is insignificant. If there is a camera calibration issue MA won't do anything for you. This is definitely no fun. Went through it with a lens as well. Your camera went to Toronto correct?

I wish they had supplied a little more detail on what they did too. I haven't had a chance to really try it out but I'm not really seeing a major improvement in the few shots Ive taken.Hopefully Ill have time this weekend to put it to the test.
I'm saving for the 100-400mm II
Thanks
John

They never do and I have sent gear to Toronto, New Jersey and Newport News. Too much detail gets to many people thinking ;-)a Actually these days I don't really care. Calibrate and electrical adjustments are good enough for me as long as it works.

I just looked for my 70-200 2.8 II and there was no repair details on the work order they email you. I called Canon and they told me that they found a mis-calibrated board. I picked it up on they way to Phoenix in January and I can't find the work orders details document but I'm pretty sure it pretty much said the same thing.

I agree on the to much information, I just wanted to take up where I left off. but I have no detail on birds feather out past 25 feet. I was shooting the blue jays this morn as they came for the morning hangout. one shot is not much better and sitting shots look like I used the old 7D and I already have one of those lol

Pondrader hopefully the resolve the issue quickly. If you send it in and its working good you should get it back better not worse. I sent mine in on a Monday and had it back on Friday I sent it to the New Jersey plant. Good Luck.

True as long as it works I'm OK with it This is the second camera I had to send in the first was 60D that had a hard time locking focus I received pretty much the same response and when I got it back the camera was ten times better I'm hopping this one is the same when i finally get to really use it.

now 10 times better would be cool but I was hoping for at least the same, but now my 100-400L II hunts real bad at 400mm

I'm not expecting ten times although it wold be nice the 60D I had was really bad the 7DMK II was just off especially at 300mm I would like it to be at least the same as my old 7D which was pretty much on with the 70-300mm L all thru the range. I'm off tomorrow and if it doesn't rain I'm going to give it a test.

The good old days lol, going through some of the thousands of fox images I have never done anything with. I figured I would do this when I was stuck in my rocking chair looking out the window lol, and I still will. I have a bad habit of processing a few and moving on, leaving hundreds of these behind.

I hear ya Kim, I'm going to send it back in. They told me they will not look and the lens until there is an amount of dirt large enough to affect the image quality. Even though they said it is more than likely a bad seal. but I can have it cleaned for almost $400 with tax I think. But the camera they can fix,....I hope

Jeff,
I feel your pain. It really stinks when we as customers can prove we know more than the experts who often seemingly don't do their job properly.

Fwiw, My suggestion for dealing with Canon is to get a supervisor in the phone who will take accountability for the repair prior to it getting returned back to you so they can review the fix.

Canon controls who you talk to. At Canon Canada, you get to deal with the "Technical Support Representative". I'm on a first-name basis with the guy. I won't publish his name here in case that's not proper, but his initials are S.A. He seems to be quite knowledgeable, but I think his real role is to deflect customer fury. He tends to lead the customer around in circles with soothing words. So he doesn't solve many problems. It's probably not his fault - that's probably how they have trained him.

Trying to catch up, but I had an idea so that you can maybe help them help you. Fwiw-
Did you happen to try Live view focus to compare to the >25 ft shots to see if they properly focused. Similarly for manual focus. These will help isolate mechanical issues vs phase detect focus mechanism. Repeating with a different lens would be useful too.
