Batis 25:

Sailed past this during on the way to our fishing excursion. The Ocean Star is an old off-shore rig that was converted into a museum. Used to take field trips to this thing during my undergrad.

I miss the 16-35! I intend to pick another up next year (done buying gear for now lol), but the voitglander UWA primes have me intrigued too.

Congrats Eddie and David. I will probably pick up the EF 16-35 as well. Still not sure if it's worth trading in my EF 16-35 f2.8. Not my sharpest lens but one I use a lot so this focal range is important for me. The Batis 25 also looks like a winner. Thanks Carlo for the great samples. Then the the 10 or 15 voightlander in E mount look very promising too to me.

Carlo, I was at the Tex Ren Fest yesterday on opening day. Has a great time with my son and wife. 3 hr drive each way so I'm beat today. Didn't get too many photos. I'm saw most guys were using long zooms like the 70-200. Those big DSLRs draw so much attention. Lots of interesting people to shoot with their crazy costumes.

Im really asking myself lately what i should do with all my lenses. Im sitting now in the train back home from paris, as i was visiting my GF who is studying there. I was able to get some awesome shots there in paris. However, i took 4 lenses: FE16-35, FE90, the CV40 and the Leica Summilux 50.

Heres the problem, i used the Leica extensively snd never mounted another lens of mine, not even the 16-35 for wide shots. Why? The Leica is so damn good, and while i think i might be insane to even play with the idea in my mind, i really think i could sell everything and just live with the Leica 50. yes, its that crazy good. It has quite field curvature wide open, it has a bit of problems with high contrast edges wide-open, but the rendering, the sharpness and everything is out of this world. Ive never used a fast lens that is as sharp as this one wide open. Stopped down it is just perfect on the A7R.

I enjoyed shooting only with that lens and felt that ive come away with much more keepers and well composed images than usual due to limiting myself to one lens. But it is driving me insane at the same time that ive not even touched another lens, not even the 16-35, and usually i love UWA. :S

Here two of those shots

I'm just jealous that you get to go take pics of Paris almost any time you want.

Jup thats really cool :)

Paris is a very photogenic city i think, and since my GF is there until spring 16 and the train ticket doesnt cost a fortune ill be visiting her a few times more until then.

Im still wowed at the performance of the leica. Im not sure which lenses i should sell now... I would love to have a 16 or 21mm 2.8 lens that is as amazing as the summilux but sadly this doesnt exist at the moment (at least not in a small and light package). If id have that i think i would be ready to sell everything...

One more with the lux. I really love the depth that is going on there, the house is beautifully sharp and the foreground blured nicely. This is at 1.4 mind you!! The top of the house is a tiny bit mushy due to field curvature, but all in all this lens is insane.

Time to start thinking about switching from Sony to Leica-M? :) I've always thought that to be a very cool system. Just not one I can afford.

Nice! I was actually planning to attend today, but plans didn't pan out. Will definitely check it out sometime this month.

Yeah people lug DSLR's around everywhere down here. Kinda nuts, but I used to do the same. I can't imagine doing that now. I like my stealth set-ups that no one pays attention to.

Why that's delicious. I should have one by Wednesday--thinking of a street lens for Paris.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

David A - Whats your thoughts on the Voigtlander announcement?

My thought on the Voigtlander announcement is that if those extreme ultra-wides are good, I might consider selling the 11-24L. They look intriguing.

OTOH, I have built my kit around dual body usage (Canon-mount lenses that are equally at home on 5DS R and a7R II), so I'll have that to consider as well.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how the 10mm performs. I thought it would be up your street, its certainly got my attention.

In other news I finally got round to listing my 5D3 so the process has started

I played with the idea too but to be honest i would not do it. The guy who sold me the lux also had a mint M9-P for sale at a very good price too but i will stick to sony. The EVF is too much worth IMO :) also, i love high resolution especially with great lenses so... I dont want to mess around with a rangefinder because the EVF with the focus assist, zebra etc is making MF really enjoyable. Im planning on getting the A7Rii and then id have even more goodies compared to the leicas. They are nice for sure but i feel the sonys are much more up to todays tech
