Sooooo... I have ordered a brand new MkII... :D

Any recommendations on using a UV filter that won't compromise the IQ of this lens? Having had cheaper lenses in the past I typically use Hoya and have a UV(O) filter from my old Sigma 120-400 I can use but I don't mind spending a little more if there is something more suitable out there...

This will be my first L class lens and more than a little excited about it :)

Thanks for all the help, I love this forum... (long time lurker)

<tuffty/>

Congratulations on your purchase! You will love the lens.

4 years ago, I was using UV filters on everything. Now I don't use them on anything. However, if you choose to use a filter, I would recommend a Hoya HD2 or HD3.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I've been trying to catch these in flight as they arrive for weeks now. I even swapped to the 5d3 to up the iso hoping for less noise but they are so fast I can't freeze wing movement, even if I nail them. 2000sec won't do it. I'll need to resite the bird tables into a sunnier part of the garden I guess as they only arrive early morning and late afternoon

Wow – that’s a lot of birds! I have found that using a flash increases my keeper rate with these fast moving birds. I use the HSS mode so I can retain a shutter speed of 1/1600 as ISO800 on the 5D Mk III.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks mate. I was surprised when I brought it up on the monitor to see that it's claws weren't wrapped around the dowel and that it was hanging on purely because of how sharp they must be!

Love those magpies and butcherbirds, so intelligent and funny.

A butcherbird used to politely come to breakfast every morning when I was staying up near Cairns.
