You had the light working against you.
Bright sunlight - shooting into the shadow side of players.
Large dynamic range and it looks as if the camera exposed for the background
As a result these look a little "flat" to me.

If it were me, I would have cropped tighter on just the action.
So in #1 focus on the two foreground players
In #2 focus on just the player

I have found LAX a hard sport to shoot - VERY fast!!

First post and you put up photos? Very cool.

I agree. Had you shot with sun over your shoulder, it would have had a little more pop to them.

..and if that player is your kid, I think I have 25+ pictures of him from this year.

Agree about trying to shoot with the sun over your shoulder.

And both of these are shot a bit too loose for my taste. Shooting "wide" (like ~200mm) is fine from time to time but by and large sports photos are much more compelling when they are tight. As an example I think a deep crop of #1 with just the players hitting each other and goalie in the background would make it a much stronger shot.
