What e to ef adapters are you guys using? I bought Commlite simply because it was nice and cheap-ish. But after 100mm (at least on the 135mm/f2 and 70-200/f2.8II) the autofocus is either useless or simply doesn't even work.

I hear that Metabones mark IV is better in terms of AF than the Commlite. But how much better is it? Would I be getting significant improvements or just some minor advantages? I'm not exactly comfortable spending hundreds without knowing what I'm getting.

All I can tell you is the Metabones iv T with the latest software is very good.

I use a viltrox ii but for the lenses you mention metabones iv is what you need

I have found it(metabones iv) almost flawless with the 70-200 II.

So I went and got the Metabones IV and just ran a quick test with Sigma 35mm/1.4 ART, Sigma 85/1.4 EX, Canon 135/2 and the Canon 70-200/2.8IS II.

Overall Metabones winds it against Commlite (perhaps quite obviously). With the 35 both adapters seem good or great. There's no significant difference in AF speed and accuracy. On the 85/1.4 the difference is perhaps the most significant, the Metabones' advantage. Metabones seems to work almost flawlessly whereas Commlite hunts alot (albeit usually nails it at the end).

But with the 135 performance is near similar. Meaning horrible. Commlite never nails the AF - it just keeps on hunting. Metabones seems to do it maybe 1 out of 10 times, but that's close to nothing.

Metabones seems to work decently with the 70-200. At 70-100mm the AF is decently solid. And beyond 100mm it seems to work okay, but only if you're using centered focus point. Off-center focus (which I use a lot) is either bad or just nonfunctional.

So yeah, Metabones is better overall. But considering the difference in price, Metabones is not delivering it. So in my opinion, it is grossly overpriced.

While I like the A7rII, I'll stick to my Canons for now and probably keep the Sony on the side. There are serious native fast primes in the market and the third party adapters are (obviously) not up there with native lenses.

did you update the firmware of the MBIV? supposedly, it's the only adapter to do well with the 135L.

there is just no way you have updated the firmware

with the original firmware this was true

i have used the 135L a lot the last 3 days and it is very fast and 100% accurate all the time

Duh! I was stupid enough to assume that it would've been delivered with the latest firmware installed. I'll update and hope that'll fix the issue.

want to also add that some people are reporting that the .44 version is faster than the newest .45 version with the 135L

may want to download that version first and test it

Thanks for the hint.

Had to rely on the native 55/1.8 in today's test shoot. The camera is nice, though.

Just posting this if anyone is looking for feedback on the new firmware update.
