I haven't used this lens in a very long (was my main lens and then my sidekick), so because I am soon to be testing the new 100-400 II, I took this lens out today to give it a look to see if it will stay in my stable of lens. One thing became very apparent quickly, I ain't getting any younger and hand holding this lens with no IS on a 1.6 crop body is not as easy as it used to be. It became apparent very quickly as I could see lots of movement when hand holding. I just was not as steady as I used to be and as a result I had to jack up the SS, which in turns requires me to jack up the ISO (I'd like to ISO low as possible) and I had to do more burst shots to get sharper images. Anyway here are a couple shots from the 400 5.6 from today. I don't know about it's fate. I will have to wait to see how the 100-400 II fares on an outing.
