Outex VS Ewa Marine - Thoughts?

Looking to get into some underwater photography this year and see where it can go since I live in San Diego. Right now I dont want to get a hard housing since its a bit much, so looking at these two. I like and dislike somethings about each but would love to hear full thoughts from those who own them.

Outex

- Fits a great range of cameras and longer lens like the 300mm F4 so I can do surf from in the water.
- Dome Port Upgrade, If I like shooting I can upgrade to a dome port down the line
- packs up really tight in the bag
- Small and Lightweight

Ewa Marine

- Has a good warrenty
- Some of the bags can go to 150ft
- It looks like the bag wont take longer lens
- Looks easyer to shoot sense you can see the buttons
- Non changeable glass, outex you just buy a new one

Im just wandering what is best bet for shooting in 15-20 ft of water. Shooting 1D Mark IV and the 16-35 F4 Lens but might want to go use a 135 L or 70-200 down the road to mix it up.

Don't do either. Save for a proper housing. Surf housing sounds like a better bet. Trust me, it's a false savings when your camera is flooded.

And if investing in a housing is not a big priority, look at P&S alternatives. You will not need/want to shoot a long lens underwater. The less water between you and the subject, the better. Wander on over to underwater photography sites and explore the topic a bit. I'm sure you can start down the road with a minimal investment (even a Go Pro) and get a feel for this type of photography. Bottom line, I would not risk the SLR/lens in a bag-type housing. All it takes is one leak to lead to an expensive outing.

^agreed. As for focal length, you'll shoot wide underwater and probably no more than 85 or so for surf, more likely wide as well. Surf housing are designed to take a beating, both options you listed will very quickly ruin your day.

I would disagree with the long lens opinions here, I just bought a 70-200 port for my SPL housing though so I might be a little biased. But I will whole heartedly back the statement not to purchase the bags. Everyone I know who has used one has drowned their camera.
