For the current users of the Godox flashes this trigger is totally uninteresting because there is no control of the setting of the flash. You still need on trigger on the camera and one in the hand to control/trigger the flash.

I have a couple of the Cells II-N units, and they work just great. The only slight confusion that comes into play is in following the instructions from CheetahStand about NOT needing to put the flash into high-speed mode, but leaving it at 1/1 power. I don't do a lot of rapid burst shooting, as it's just not my style and therefore figure overheating or slowdowns will not be a problem. So I prefer using the Cells II-N with the flash in high-speed mode, so I can dial in whatever amount of power I want. Otherwise, they work great with the CL-360 and fairly decently with the CL-600.

It is all about travel time of the shutter. If you use full power the duration of the flash is long enough to cover that travel time. What you nee is a pre-sync trigger to synchronise both optimal. If the synchronization is not perfect you get the difference in efficiency like between the 622 and Cells II.

HSS is pulsing light and uses more energy to lit the sensor completely and also need pre-sync.

you planning to use it with a softbox at all? You'll need a bracket. Might want a 2-1 cord for faster recycling

but yeah, that looks like a good deal.

Flash, Battery, Transmitter, Umbrella REflector kit for $399

imho:

- Adorama -
If you are purchasing from Adorama & their offering fits your needs, I'd look into the bundle items for reduced pricing on modifiers;

Cheethstand: Many members on POTN have bought & had great Customer Service/Support from Ed @ Cheethstand with their CL-___ of strobes.
https://www.cheetahstand.com …rives-p/cl-360p-combo.htm (external link)

Here are a few items you might want to pick up in addition to the above post:

List of Items for the 360 series from Cheetahstand:
https://www.cheetahstand.com/category-s/1966.htm (external link)

- Cheetah Speed Pro Bracket MKII for any large modifiers, Takes All Bowen S Mount modifiers.
https://www.cheetahstand.com …racket-MKII-p/bktmkii.htm (external link)
* fwiw: The construction of the supporting joint/swivel is way better than the cheaper mounts

At the minimum, for lighter weight modifiers:

* Twin Power Adapter

- Flash Tube Cover

So:
Flash, Battery, Cable, reflector, basic transmitter = $400-460 ($400 fro adorama also includes $20 reflector with umbrella holder)
Adapter = $20
Cover = $13
Bracket $25-80
Cells 2 = $50
Total = $508-623

Would I still need a YN622 at this point?

Also add Stands and Modifiers as needed.

it seems like you've been around this thread, but i'm wondering if you understand why you may (or may not) need either of these?

Nope. I understand the yn622 tricks the camera into sending the HSS signal. But why there are so many different transmission pieces for these bare bulbs is still a mystery to me. What does cells 2 do that the ft-16 doesn't and does it replace the ft-16 or is it an additional part. (Sorry I'm coming from YN where you buy multiples of a single item and that's all it takes.)

FT16 is a wireless transmitter that allows remote power control of compatible flashes (still manual mode, but you can do it from the transmitter, you dont need to walk to the flash each time)
Cells2 is a HSS compatible trigger that doesnt have remote power control.
Both work side by side, so you can stick the Cells2 in the hotshoe and have HSS, and the FT16 in your pocket to control the power output (if it were me i would actually velcro them together)

Has anyone rigged this to work with an Orbis ring flash adapter?

I think the RoundFlash is more suitable and certainly more flexible.

Has anybody heard if the 180 version is also going to come in a TTL model?

It would only make sense as in that as it is smaller than the 360 it is more likely to be used on camera where TTL would be more useful.

Doubt very seriously this will happen. They are virtually both the same size at least the cheetah brand are. The 360's are the best sellers and I do know some manufactures have discontinued the 180
in favor of the more powerful 360..

Happy Shooting:lol:

one of these:

http://www.mscdirect.com …3=7867724&CS_010=80243306 (external link)

you can get them at any hardware store, they don't cost nearly as much as the one in the link above.

use it all the time, not just when it's windy, you don't want to put stress on the cord/plug.
