What does Canon need to put on the 5D4?

2.) Variable Drive Rate

The 5D Mark III has a 6 FPS continuous rate. It's not unreasonable to expect the Mark IV to max out at 7 or 8 FPS. However, there are situations in which I don't need a full 8 FPS. The Mark III has a high speed mode (6 FPS) and a low speed mode (3 FPS), but often, I find 3 FPS to be a bit too slow for things like the first kiss, while 6 FPS fills the buffer a little too quickly. It would be great if I could dial in the speed setting that best suited my needs, especially if the Mark IV sees a bump in its maximum rate.

1D series has had this for some time, I guess I never noticed it was missing with the 5D3, because I my default setting has always been to set my 1D to 6FPS anyway.. so never needed to adjust the 5D3. Don't have my 5D3 in front of me so can;t even say for sure if he's right.

THERE ARE THOSE OUT THERE WHO NEED/WANT MORE DR! I'm not sure what all the arguing is about...

He makes a good point folks, jumping onto every thread and arguing what with people about what they want is getting old. Their have already been some repercussions for this sort of behavior. Tread softly.

That's why I am suggesting that purpose the next cool thing is something we aren't even thinking of; something surprising and innovative. That would be great wouldn't it?

How about an LCD "heads up display" in the viewfinder; such that you're still looking through the lens ("real" VF, not EVF) but it can overlay high resolution data, such as focus peaking.

For the more mundane, I'd like to see:

  • A bit more resolution (30MP feels about right)
  • A lot more DR (good for my shooting, and Canon really needs to catch up with... well, just about everyone else in this regard)
  • Slightly faster frame rate (e.g. 8fps) and a slightly deeper buffer
  • Proper high speed access to the SD card (i.e. SD card use not crippling write speeds)
  • RAW histogram
  • Slightly higher flash sync speed
  • Slightly better high ISO quality (AFAIU the 5D3 is still pretty good in this regard, so I guess we can't expect miracles)
  • Lots more firmware features: intervalometer, exposure times over 30s, focus stacking mode for macro, focus peaking (as mentioned above)

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

I suspect any HUD is going to have the same latency issues that drive many people away from EVFs

I'd add the following:
-EFCS available as a menu option, not just limited to LiveView.
-Slightly smaller and lighter body.

Probably, but still ok for focus peaking I'd guess.

I'd actually be happy with the 6D 20mp sensor with better DR which the 6D already has a better higher ISO. Maybe a slight bump up from the 6D sensor making 51,200 usuable like on the 1dX.

the slightly lower bump in MP would mean they could push the camera to 7FPS which would be adequate. Throw in GPS/Wifi and also...

DUAL PIXEL... so that way we can focus during video like found on the 7D2.

AF is fine

Add exposure compensation during manual mode and throw in the joystick lever found on the 7D2 which is where my EC is set to.

I don't think they need to release a new camera a lot quicker. The reason why they are so good imo is because they take their time at doing things. Also, there would be a lot more unsold units if they keep rushing out new models, this is the reason why Nikon and the rest seem to be much more cheaper and also they don't seem to add a lot of new features on their cameras per new models (Nikon and the rest, that is)

And i don't trust them any ways, so maybe the double negative means this is the real deal? :) :)

Having just given up waiting and bought a 5D III, I'm hoping they put bugger all on the 5D IV :)

maybe they can ante up and bring the 5D4 as a mirrorless cam. The body would be full body, however, adapter provided for normal EF glass, weather sealed, however, it would be the first "Pro" mirrorless body. They could offer 600 AF points across the entire frame. The battery would still be the LP6 or whatever it is, however, they would cater to a new market of shooters that prefer the EVF and the inherent tech whiz that comes with it.

For me, I won't upgrade for more DR, more resolution, higher FPS, or better AF. The 5D3 is just fine. What would get me in the store is higher ISO with lower noise. The more the better. I want to shoot 1/500 f/8 by candlelight.

Horrible idea and they would never do that. DSLRs are still king and people buying a 5Div do not want a mirrorless camera. Mirrorless has been around for at least a dozen years and still is just a blip on the radar of digital camera sales, whereas DSLRs started to make a big dent in film camera sales within 3 years of their release. Mirrorless is a fad right now, we will see if it actually becomes a serious competitor.
