I have found it(metabones iv) almost flawless with the 70-200 II.

no it does not

i have both setups as well - it works on the A7R with the Metabones iv T but is is lacking the 'power' and speed that is delivered on the 5D3 - and definitely don't think it is going to track in AFC like it does is AI Servo - especially as the thing being tracked is close and coming at the camera - at that point it fails

Decided to take the A7Rii to a hockey game last night. It is one of the better lit arenas in Toronto but it has the white webbing that you have to shoot through so I play significantly with the image in PP to make the webbing 'mostly' disappear (otherwise there would be more detail in the blacks). I used the 135L and shot at F2, 1/1000, iso 2500. BB focus, high speed, AFC, AWB, Center Medium focus. I was happy with the Camera's AWB and the colours out of camera.

The following were challenges:
- the white webbing will catch the AF so I almost entirely shot towards a net at the goalie so I wouldn't be tracking in which case the AF didn't have a problem
- i have setup my camera to shut down quickly to save battery so waking it back up is a major challenge if something happens quickly so don't do this
- i can say i almost never shoot with a prime at hockey because a 70-200 is a much better fit but F2 is so much better in poor lighting and I wanted to keep a slightly lower profile and the A7Rii works with the 135L better than the 70-200 F2.8II
- you have to get use to that the slow refresh rate of the eye viewer (it sucks) and just keep snapping away - obviously this will have to improve in a 1Dx type mirrorless camera and I don't see any reason why with faster computers and better batteries why it can't happen
- i made it work with BBF but I personally wish the next A7 is a substantially taller camera, or at least that they offer a man / pro version, so that you can really hold it in your hand - without having to install a grip to make it bigger

The camera works and the images are good sooc. With the right lenses and more batteries / more powerful batteries, I could easily use it - but it isn't quite there yet for pro sporting work as your only camera.


Dear Sony, here are my specs for the next A7 - lets call it the A7 Pro
- bigger with man hand ergonomics with much, much bigger battery that is more powerful to drive bigger lenses
- 5-10x the eye refresh rate
- joystick to move AF points
- 70-200 F2.8, 200F2 native lenses

Don't listen to David. He's an evil man who has led many of us down the road of Gear Acquisition Syndrome and empty wallets.

Seriously though, if you're looking for a smaller kit, you won't go wrong with an A7RII and a couple of lenses like the FE 50/1.8 and the FE 28/2.

I'd suggest making that 50mm above the 55mm f1.8 TBH

First time shooting something other than a Canon in 17 years. I shot a few side by sides with the 5DSR, but haven't had the chance to make sure they are apples to apples yet.

tried the A7Rii again at a tike hockey game this am:
- the colours are great
- the AF for tracking is not fast enough

if you take the approach of doing 'portraits' during a sporting event i think it can do a good job

AF tracking needs to be 5x faster and EVF refresh rate needs to be 10x faster
- sign me up for a A7Riii Pro model

One more from my trip to London and Paris. They had an alarm at Versailles and emptied the place and I happened to be in the right place at the right time and had the first 20 rooms to myself when they re-opened. Hall of Mirrors empty except for the one seated worker.

The dynamic range on these cameras is unbelievable. I took some Halloween shots with the 1DX last week after not using it for months and I was trying to pull out shadow detail that I had gotten used to pulling out of the alphas and was very disappointed. Went for walk this morning and took a few shots with the 7RII and the DR I was able to pull out of the shadows was unbelievable. The 42 megapickles was a real treat also;

This would have been impossible with the canon sensor unless at least 3 image HDR;

This camera is in my future....albeit, distant future.
