Gene, I watched the video there. The quality seems great! Even in the car the image was smooth. Also would love some of your weather right now!

I think I remember you saying it was a gopro 4? I looked them up again there and there is a cheaper "hero" and a more expensive "Hero 4", I take it this is the Hero4? Youve got my GAS going and I dont even shoot videos :)

EDIT - Just had a thought there, if I was to do a video like that none of you guys in the states would understand anything I say :)

Your added sentence at the end made me laugh out loud Eddie. Heck, I wonder if people in my country can understand me!!

I got the GoPro Hero 4 Silver model. As far as I know, there is one model higher, about $100 higher called the Hero 4 Black. I believe the main difference is that it can shoot 4k video but it has no rear LCD touch screen whereas mine does. As someone else said, you don't just buy a GoPro camera...there are tons of accessories to consider as well. Fortunately, most are pretty reasonable such as mounts, "selfie sticks" and the like. (see my posted photo from last night). I have more goodies on the way and found out this morning that my 3 axis gimbal has shipped. It's coming from China and should be here in 4 to 7 business days.

You need to get one of these cameras and mount it on your son although we might get a bit dizzy watching the end results as active as he must be. I would love to see some video of your local area though, accents and all.;-)a

hey gene, looked at the video, and the footage in the car was smooth, but walking at the end was not smooth. Did you turn it off while walking?

Err, turn what off Charlie? At my age and with my knees, that's how I walk. :-) If you meant to ask if I turned off the gimbal, I don't have it yet and won't until sometime next week.

Gene, your video looked good. Looking forward to your footage with the gimbal.

Speaking of stabilized video, I know some of you are interested in the DJI Osmo. Here is a good unboxing.

A closer view of downtown Houston on a wet evening. A tall building in the distance has the lights turned out to spell out "UH" which is the University of Houston.

I normally like to desaturate photos a bit, leave the colours on the subtle side rather than burning your eyeballs out.
It's also generally my preference to have lots of depth of field.

But neither of these things seem to work that well with Sony colours and Full frame heh, it's still a bit of a change coming from a Canon 600D.
Sometimes not in a good way (mostly to do with the annoyances of full frame)

So tried something a bit different to usual, I like how it turned out. Samyang 85mm / A7S

Not sure what you mean, I think the desaturated look works great on the a7S files. Also, out of curiosity, what do you mean by "the annoyances of full frame"?

Fantastic shot. You know me. I love those night time city shots. But again, I have to ask what lens was this taken with? I don't see any of those odd double reflections that I've seen with my get up.

I seem to understand you brits just fine. Probably from a decade of working with a couple of brits and being addicted to the shows on BBC America. hehe.

He he, well here's my first GoPro video shot from my car. I learned more what not to do than anything else but that's the idea...to see what I don't know so I can 'fix' it.

If you have a couple of minutes to spare, here it is.

Oh...no gimbal as it was just shipped this morning...

I decided to put it up as a web page rather than link directly to Youtube here.

That came out very nice, Gene. I'm curious how you managed to turn the camera from front-facing towards you in the car, while driving.
Or did you stop, rotate the camera, and start up again?

Dean, appreciate your feedback. I was using the Canon 16-35L f2.8 II. I haven't had the double reflections on my night shots like you experienced.

Eddie, I will check more closely but I don't recall seeing the issue. I did see the same double star burst issue that Dean saw on an image from New Orleans. It was a daytime scene shooting at the sun through Spanish moss. Very odd looking.

Thanks Carlo! If you ever stay at the Hilton Americas Hotel, go up to the 23rd floor for the pool and skyline deck. Worth the price of the room. Nice hotel too.

Can you post an example of the double starburst? And which lens were you shooting with?
