I know what you mean about a good smoke and good whiskey. I've never tried Macallan. I was enjoying Chivas Regal 18, a blended whiskey rather than single malt. I may give Macallan a try next, there's a BevMo near by that carries it.

The chivas regal whiskey bond is in dalmuir, clydebank about 2 mins drive from my house :)

So much coolness in this thread - best place on the Internet imo.

Gene, I failed to say so earlier, but I loved your GoPro movies - I'm hungry for more. :)

Eddie, congrats on yours; and your steering wheel comment gave me a really good laugh. :)

Much of North FL, and South AL and GA was hammered with rain today, so we escaped a couple hours drive north to Cheaha Mountain (Alabama) where it was raining significantly less (a7R II + Zeiss Otus 1.4/55mm ZE):

Thanks david, already got a few time lapse ideas planned for it. Love the mood in this shot here, superb

Beautiful, subdued fall colors David.

Glad you liked the auto videos and the desire to see more. That helps a lot.

Thanks Gene! Fall colors aren't quite as pretty here in GA and AL as they are back in my previous home in the MO/KS region. Not sure if it's just a species thing, or if the climate here is too wet/humid/hot.

Love that shot David and the Zeiss rendering!

Thanks! I am nuts about the Otus. I know am a total moron for even considering it, but I have some ambition to sell my 11-24mm + something else to pave the way for the Otus 28mm. A ridiculous scheme, but sheesh the Otus 55mm is so amazing I can only imagine the landscapes and street possibilities with the 28mm. :)

Envious that you can drive to,this kind of setting within a few hours or less. I don't think I can get anywhere non urban, with trees and country roads within 6 hours. And even then, we have no fall colors here.
Ah well.

Can't begin to express my elation in moving to a place where I can literally get out of town into the countryside in less than 5 minutes. And there are really cool places to visit all around. My bigger challenge, starting next Spring, will be to venture farther out for some extended camping trips.

How do you guys manage the EVF when working with strobes and exposing for no ambient light? I've done a few shoots with my month-or-so old A7rII. And the fact that I can't frame my shots because the EVF is all black (but for me a split second where the camera's is trying to focus).

I'm thinking more and more about maybe getting the 5DS.

In the menu change it to "setting effect off" and it wont be dark anymore. When set to on its showing you the live exposure with no flash, when set to off it adjusts the exposure on the evf/lcd so you can see

No probs, I would tell you where in the menu but I need to search for it every single time. I miss the 5D3 menu system

Indeed. I've had Sony (a6000 and RX100III) for almost a year now and I still can't get on top of the menu's structure and logic (if there ever truly was one). Overall I prefer Canon, but I'll keep the Sonys on the side for now and see if I'll get comfortable with them.

Guys im so happy right now! Since almost two years im having bad luck with trying to get a milkyway shot, because either clouds messed it up for me or the situation wasnt right to go out of town. The problem is that i have at least a 2 hour drive somewhere to nowhere to get acceptable dark skies and a cloudless night in switzerland is not happening every day.

But i finally got a few ones that i really like :D

Edit: I just noticed the magenta noisy cast, didnt looked like that in LR yesterday while processing, but its clearly better than all my attempts before. So happy :)

Love how the fall colors in the foreground initially catch your attention, then the road leads your eyes towards the dreariness in the background.

Yeah, was whining about it for quite a while now :D

It made me feel really stupid having followed the milkyway picture thread here with all those nice shots that im trying to do on my own but never could make. Theres a guy from new zealand making it look so easy, was really depressing. Honestly happy now, i think next time im doing it with the A7Rii, hopefully not next year lol

Congrats on the MW!! Fantastic captures.

We were hiking 3 days ago adjacent to the Volcan Arenal NP, found this guy on a tree, lesson is while in CR to NEVER put your hand anywhere without looking seriously closely first, so hard to spot. This is a brown Eyelash Viper-
