It seems like photopills has expanded on what the TPE previously done. Cant wait to try this out. I bought a couple of lenses yesterday especially for the milky way (Samyang 14 and 24). It was the money I was keeping for the Batis but it took too long so samyangs and a gopro it is :)

Take a look at the Jupiter 9, it's a 85mm 2.0 and was available in Leica Tread Mount. Similar size and uses a very small adapter.

The first batch used actual Zeiss glass from germany when the soviets took the manufacturing plants, if I remember correctly. Those will be pricey but the later ones are really affordable with almost exact quality. Just be sure to not get the contax or M42 mount ones. Those require large adapters, the contax mount one requires a really expensive adapter at that.

The Zorki one is the one you want(LTM) not the Kiev Contax one.

Thanks for the info. I did have a Jupiter 9 a while ago in M42 mount but think that may have been before I got the A7.

One of the appeals of the Leica 90 and CV40 is the small size and small adapters. I guess I need to look for a M39 LTM Jupiter then is that correct?

#3 is my favorite of these. I haven't even had a chance to look at the stuff we shot last night. I'm hoping some of them came out as I envisioned them. That CV 12 is VERY interesting.
I also did some handheld high ISO shooting towards the end, street-tog style (while you guys were fumbling around "Angels Flight". So I'm curious to see how those come out. Wide open with the CV 35/1.7, handheld on AUTO ISO. hehehe.

Does anyone here use the photographers ephemeris for planning sunset/sunrise photos? If so do you know if there's a similar thing for the milky way? I.e. there's a location I want to shoot a milkyway photo so that the milkyway is rising out of the top of a pointy mountain but I have no clue how to calculate when the milkyway will be in the correct position

I've tried TPE a couple of times. Never ended up really paying attention to where I should be. Things always have a way of not panning out where I live (ie, the city, where one has to drive for 30 minutes to find a parking spot for example). But I can see it being VERY useflul on backcountry/hiking/wilderness kind of areas.

Another nice set, Charlie! Love the reflection of the sunset. Too bad we missed most of that sunset. Looked promising at first.

yes parking was a pain. Right when you left the first time around on hill, there was two open spots right near the paid spot. it was snatched up in a few minutes.... The CV 35 is certainly a notch up from the cv 40, sharp to the edges.

I have some doubling of starburts, but that might be from the actual lighting. A mixture of doubling and non doubling in the same image, across the frame.

A look on the inside and then the gimbal itself.

I took it "for a quick walk" to my neighbors house and I'll have to learn how to control things so the camera doesn't turn unless I want it to. I'll post the video shortly if anyone's interested.

You know. I have yet to fully understand this doubling of starbursts issue. You've seen my reports on the matter in previous posts. I am fairly convinced it's caused by the camera body itself (sensor). It seems to happen on some shots, but not others, and it seems to happen with different lenses (FD, M mount, EF, so different adapters).
I am not 100% certain, but I think it also happens with the native FE (24-70). I'd have to go back and check my library to confirm.

But I have never seen double starbursts with the 6D (shooting a lot of similar lights and identical scenery).

And this happens with tripod shots, with IBIS turned off. Not always with long exposures. And I don't bracket. So it's not a question of long exposure or IBIS or superimposing of 2 exposures, etc.

That looks very nice.
This may be a dumb question (I have not really researched or read about gimbals), but would this same one also work on a camera? Is this like an ARCA mount, for example? Or is it custom made for the GoPro only?

I can see myself using this with the A7RII or 6D on random occasions.

The same company (Came TV) makes larger units that can support the a7 series...costs a lot more though. $1K or so. These small camera gimbals are pretty much for tiny GoPros and the like. Heck, I wish the thing would even support a RX100 IV, but even that is probably way too much for these GoPro gimbals.
