Nice one!

Thank you very much!

Do you guys have any tips in PP to make the milkyway stand out a little more?

Guys im so happy right now! Since almost two years im having bad luck with trying to get a milkyway shot, because either clouds messed it up for me or the situation wasnt right to go out of town. The problem is that i have at least a 2 hour drive somewhere to nowhere to get acceptable dark skies and a cloudless night in switzerland is not happening every day...

But i finally got a few ones that i really like :D My first milkyway shot:

Congrats! I love the light in the foreground and the thin clouds. Lovely shot.

Thanks! Had to wait about 2 hours until the clouds went away to let me capture the MW. First i damned the clouds but i think they added quite a bit to the shot.

I asked this elsewhere on POTN but this is probably the better place to ask. When shooting sunrises and sunsets I use the photographers ephemeris so that I can check the position that the sun will be in at those times depending on the time of year etc.

Is there a similar thing for the milky way? I.e. there's a location I want to shoot a milkyway photo so that the milkyway is rising out of the top of a pointy mountain but I have no clue how to calculate when the milkyway will be in the correct position. Is there a website or app that can tell me this?

EDIT - someone in the sony forum helped me out. This is what I was after - http://www.photopills.com …ng-2d-map-centric-planner (external link)

Im using photopills! Althought the only time i could have made use of it (first time ive shot the MW) i had no battery left on my phone hahaha. However, for my luck i knew that here in switzerland the Mw will be in the east and luckily i had a compass

I also use Stellarium to show when and where the milky way will be at a given date and time.

You can fast forward the time to show a future date and then you just need a nice spot facing the right way and the weather to play ball :)

Yes. Stellarium is great for that. I also use it for any astronomical target I'm considering to see when it'll be in the best part of the sky for me to shoot.

Another vote for PhotoPills.

I use Stellarium as well, on the laptop, but PhotoPills is always there on the phone.

Wow awesome. Really want to integrate this sort of thing into our wedding photos. A wedding blogroll with a final milkway landscape shot would be awesome. We need the right venue in the right locations first!

One more:

The red light is from a flare one of my friends was carrying.
