Gulls and Seals? Who knew?

This was something I'd never seen before. There was a seal in Wallace Bay, chasing and catching smelt. The Bonaparte Gulls saw this, and decided to play with the seal. They would actually land on him, and I think just get a better vantage point to catch a fish. The seal seemed to enjoy the game, and looked like he was extending his head out of the water for the gulls to land on. Kind of cool :)

Dang gulls will try anything to snatch a meal! They sit on pelicans here hoping to nab a fish before the pelican can swallow it.
Beautiful shots, Ian. Bay is a pretty color-cold too, I bet.

Interesting comment Rog, haven't seen gulls landing on anything living before this. And yes, the water was a beautiful deep blue , it was later afternoon on a gorgeous sunny fall day. But I wouldn't want to swim in it right now, even though along this shore we boast "the warmest waters north of the Carolinas? :)
