I shot that 35 wide open quite a bit last night. Very clean wide open. Great bokeh too.
I'll post a few mor after going through a few more.
I also want that 55/1.8 now. My list keeps growing. Time to sell more canon gear...

well, I had shot the 55 a ton on saturday as well, and it was too tight often (often too tight in DTLA!!!). I would have been better off with a 35 and cropped in some shots, or 28/55 combo..... pretty sure my next lens will be the 28, going to sell off the 40 to get there. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the optics I was packing last night aside from the 24-70 that is :p

a glaring hole was a missing 24/28. For event shooting, I'de take 28, however for landscapes, I favor the 24 for sure!

I was pretty happy shooting all primes last night, it really helps to have a belt system

I'm surprised you want to get rid of the 40mm, that's honestly fast becoming my favorite FL. The Oly 38/1.8 is still one of my favorite lenses to use on my a7S and although I've only had the 27mm for my X-E2 for a day I can already tell I love it too.

dean's 35 is much sexier :-P

I guess, I can make the 40 work for what I shoot, however 28/55/135 for my event shooting is more my style. 95% of shots will come from 55/135, and 5% will come from the 28 when everything else is too tight. Sometimes I cant make 55 work for a group photo, but I'll try!

I may keep the 40 as a true single lens solution, in that respect, it really shines. Very small, fits in one of my tiny specialized bags..... but the 35 is on a different optical level...

I am currently carrying the 24 FD. But I'm thinking based on the performance of the 35 Ultron that I could try the 21 Ultron.
Like you, I'm loving shooting all primes. I did not use any zooms last night. I need a better bag, but my plan is to go with small CV type lenses. I really enjoy them and the size and weight is great.

You're not kidding about that 35. The optics are amazing. I'm looking at 1:1 crops here and finding it very sharp all the way in the corners. And the pics need very little work in post. Colors and rendering are nice.
I also really liked that CV 12, btw. But definitely not versatile.

Interesting about the double star bursts. At least now I know it's not just me :)

Definitely loving this new approach to shooting. I used to carry so much weight and size.
I'm getting to where I want to carry 3-4 small RF type prime lenses in a shoulder bag and that's it.

I wish I knew about the update to the RX1RII. It had been so long since we heard anything about it, the last we heard was a curved sensor, but nothing. Having the internal guts of an a7rII combined with the benefits of the RX1 is a grea thing. Eye AF, PDAF, etc.

More and more lately I'm using the tilt screen to compose shots because of my 2.5 yr old and now 4 month old. Anyone who does with the a7rII will know where I'm coming from when the sensitive eye sensor annoys me like crazy. I can't tell you how many times I have th screen titled to get eye level with my daughter, reach to hit the shutter, then flash, the screen goes off.

I've placed my preorder for the RX1RII and will see where I go from here. I know a lot of people talk about how liberating shooting with one lens/one focal length frees their mind to see things from a new perspective. Also the 42mp sensor will give me more leeway when it comes to cropping. I cropped with the original RX1 but having more pixels to crop and retain mor detail will be nice.

I changed the settings so.that the delete button changed the lcd to the evf and back which meant if I was using the lcd it wouldn't auto change to the evf in those scenarios, then if I wanted to use the evf I'd hit the button once more and switch it over. Worked well but I've got it back on auto again

Nice Dean!

Charlie, what's the belt system you use? I've often thought about the camera on a sling strap and a second lens in a belt pouch but never actually got one

btw, I have some photos from the 35, and optically it's really clean, however I was only shooting F8. Unlike the 40, the 35 is sharp to the edges and it's a really neat looking lens.

These are all great shots!

I couldn't wait to test out my new gimbal so as soon as I mounted it on the camera (the batteries were already in the gimbal), I took a little walk with it from my place to my neighbors.

My 1st impressions are I was very impressed with how stable the video was, especially for my 1st try, that the wide setting may have been too much so I"ll try medium next and finally, I need some practice to learn how to make the camera turn when I want it to.

Scroll down to the 3rd video. I promise to shoot and share something more interesting in the future...thanks for being patient with me. :-)
