When one turns off the electronic front curtain shutter, I presumed that it would shift to a mechanical front and rear curtain. But when I turn it off, it actually gets smoother and my flash sync speed is worse. It almost sounds like a fully electronic shutter. What am I doing wrong? I'm trying to get the maximum sync speed and I'm still noticing a slight black bar on my images when using a cable to my strobe.
I guess I'm wondering how I get a fully mechanical shutter.
What sync speed is giving you the black bar? If its 1/250 it could be your your triggers. Jim Kasson posted measurements showing that the sync speed is 1/300s and people have reported 1/250 with sony flashes with no issues. Personally I use 1/160 but havent actually tried faster
front curtain off is fully mechanical. Front curtain on is electronic front and mechanical rear. Silent mode is electronic front and rear.
