My 1D IV shows up in a few hours... then the charging of the battery. I've already read through the manual.. and have a few set up charts bookmarked. I understand most of it..... though I will have to figure out the back button focus scheme. It's different from my 7D2.. similar but different. I think it's #1 as opposed to zero. It will take me a bit to work through the set up menus.

Unlike my other camera bodies, there are no published books for the ID IV. I guess because the market would be small.

I do look forward to getting past the initial learning curve and getting out there to shoot some photographs.

Congrats, hope you have many years of fun with the Mk IV. It's the first DSLR I've owned that didn't leave me wanting better, even after 5+ years.

The MKIV is like a hippo. Heavy, bulky, but damn fast and surprisingly nimble for something so huge! And it can go for miles and miles on one feed.

Just a random eclectic mix as I got thinking about how much I enjoy this camera.

Thanks, Nighthound.

This will be my first 1D camera. I hope I can make it sing.

What firmware are most of you using. My 1D IV has never been updated from the looks of it.

I'm running version 1.1.4 which came out in 2013.

I'm going out later this PM, though I just did the MFA for both the 100-400ii and the 100-400ii plus 1.4X. Neither combo needed much, if anything. I would probably have been fine at zero. But I spent the time, might as well make the adjustments semi permanent. ;)

At first glance, things looks promising. I can't see any difference in quality between the 100-400ii with and without the 1.4X. This isn't scientific at this point.... just looking at close crops in Lightroom.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

A couple from my first outing. I have a few adjustments to make, things to learn but this camera is solid. Not fancy but solid.
